Why Did Allah Specify Following the Millah of Ibrahim?

“…Allah specified His Prophet, Ibrahim, that the religion of Islam – in its general meaning – is his millah, such as is mentioned in His Saying: {“Say: ‘Allah has Spoken the truth. So, follow the millah of Ibrahim, purely.'”} [Al ‘Imran; 95] for the following reasons:

First: Ibrahim faced a great deal of hardship in the course of establishing Tawhid and destroying shirk, and being given victory from Allah in doing this, as mentioned by Allah throughout the Qur’an.

Second: Allah – the Exalted – placed the Book and Prophethood in his progeny, and this is why he is referred to as “father of the Prophets,” and this is why Allah Said: {“…the millah of your father, Ibrahim…”} [al-Hajj; 78]

And he – peace be upon him – is the origin of seventeen Prophets that Allah mentioned in His Book as being from his progeny, and they are:

– his son Isma’il, from whose progeny came Muhammad;

– his son Ishaq, from whose progeny came Ya’qub, Yusuf, Ayyub, Dhu al-Kifl, Musa, Harun, Ilyas, al-Yas’, Yunus, Dawud, Sulayman, Zakariyyah, Yahya, and ‘Isa;

Third: to answer the claims of the Jews and Christians that they are upon the millah of Ibrahim, as Allah has showed them to be liars in this, Saying: {Or say you that Ibrahim, Isma’il, Ishaq, Ya’qub, and the twelve sons of Ya’qub, were Jews or Christians? Say: ‘Do you know better, or does Allah? And who is more unjust than he who conceals the testimony he has from Allah? And Allah is not unaware of what you do.’“} [al-Baqarah; 140]…”

Allah says:

But Shaytan wishes to lead them far astray.

Shaykh Uthaymeen says that the Shaytan wishes to put them in misguidance far from the truth, however that does not mean he will misguide them all at once, rather in many cases he does it step by step.

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

One of the signs of Riyya (showing off) is that a man sins in secret when only Allah sees him and shows fear of Allah in public"

Ibn Al-Qayyim described Allah's Greatness, saying,

He governs the affairs of the various kingdoms and He commands and forbids, creates, sustains, gives death, gives life, gives power, strips power (to and from whom He wills) and alternates the night and day. He gives varying fortunes to people and alternates governments (and states), destroying some and bringing some into existence. His Command and Power are dominant in the heavens and their zones, the earth and all that which is on and in it, in the seas and in the air. His Knowledge has encompassed everything and He counted everything. He hears all types of voices and they do not confuse Him. Rather, He hears each voice in its distinct language and need, and no voice will make Him busy from fulfilling the need of another, and no need will ever escape His Perfect Knowledge (and His Power to deliver).

He does not become bored because of the many needs of those who need. His Sight encompasses all that which there is. He sees the movement of a black ant on a barren rock during a dark night. To Him, the Unseen is uncovered end the secret is secret no more, "Whosoever is in the heavens and on Earth begs of Him (its needs from Him). Every day He has a matter to bring Forth (such as giving honor to some, disgrace to some, life to (some, death to some, etc.)." [55:29]

He forgives an evil deed, makes depression vanish and brings reprieve from disasters, relief for whoever needs it, wealth for the poor, guidance for the misguided, light for the lost, help for he who is desperate, fullness for the hungry, cover for the barely clothed, cure for the ill and ease for he who suffers. He accepts he who repents, gives reward for he who does good, gives aid for he who was dealt with injustice, destroys an arrogant person, covers mistakes, gives safety after fear end elevates some people and humiliates others. If those who inhabit His heavens and His earth and all those whom He created, whether mankind or the Jinns, had hearts similar to the most pious heart, His Kingdom will not increase. If all His creation, whether mankind or the Jinns, had hearts similar to the heart of the most wicked heart, this will not decrease from His Kingdom. Also, if all those who inhabit His heavens and His earth, all mankind and all the Jinns, the dead and the living, stand up on one strip of land and each asks Him for his need, and He then fulfils their needs, this will not decrease from what He has a bit.

He is the First, nothing is before Him, the Last, nothing is after Him, the Most High, nothing is above Him, and the Most Near, nothing is nearer than Him. He, Exalted and Ever High as He is, is the Best Whom one can and should remember, the only One Who deserves to be worshiped and thanked, the Kindest of all those who own and the Most generous of all those who are asked to give. He is the King Who has no partner, the One Who has no competitor, the Samad (Self-Sufficient) Who has no offspring, and the Ever High, none like unto Him. Everything perishes save His Face and every kingship is bound to perish except His. He will only be obeyed by His Leave, and His Knowledge uncovers all disobedience to Him. When He is obeyed, He thanks for it, and when He is disobeyed, He grants forgiveness (for those who truly repent to Him). Every punishment from Him is just and every bounty is a grace. He is the Closest Witness and the Nearest One with His Perfect Care. He controls the forelocks of everything and has the full records of all deeds end the books of all ages. The hearts are unmasked to Him and the secret is unveiled. His giving and punishing is merely a Command, "Verily, His Command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, ‘Be, and it is!’" [36:82].

Ibn Asaakir [rahimahullaah] said:

Know O my brother! May Allaah grant us and you His Pleasure and make us from those who have awe and fear of Him as He should be feared. Indeed, the flesh of the scholars is poisonous and Allaah’s way of disclosing the hidden affairs of those who diminish their worth is well known.

Allah says about the Munafiqeen:

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ قَالُوا إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ

And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "We are only peacemakers."

Commenting on this Ayat, Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen رحمه الله said in his explanation of Kitab ut Tawheed:

"Seeking judgement to other than what Allah sent down (the Shariah) is one of the greatest causes of mischief (Fasad) on the earth"

They lengthen the Izar to "disguise" themselves because they claim they want to make Hijrah.

Then they shorten their beards to "disguise" themselves and it keeps getting shorter and shorter and then disappears.

Then they leave prayer in the Masjid with the Muslims and this is all part of their "disguise".

They sit where Haram is committed and they stop enjoining the good and forbidding the evil as such actions may blow their "disguise" .

Then some along with leaving what is Wajib also start to do what is Haram and this is all part of their elaborate "disguise". They are doing it "for the sake of Allah" they claim.

Days pass, weeks pass, months pass, even years......

They never make Hijrah but their "disguise" keeps increasing.

And in reality they have been deceived by the Shaytaan and their good intention combined with their ignorance has led them to become losers.

May Allah protect us from such actions.

In the Quran Allah says words about the Munafiqeen which describe perfectly the Secularists and Democrats of today who claim to be Muslim:

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَبِالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

And of mankind, there are some (hypocrites) who say: "We believe in Allah and the Last Day" while in fact they believe not.

They (think to) deceive Allah and those who believe, while they only deceive themselves, and perceive (it) not!

In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allah has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies.

And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "We are only peacemakers."

Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive not.

And when it is said to them (hypocrites): "Believe as the people have believed," they say: "Shall we believe as the fools have believed?" Verily, they are the fools, but they know not.

And when they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe," but when they are alone with their Shayatin (devils - polytheists, hypocrites, etc.), they say: "Truly, we are with you; verily, we were but mocking."

Allah mocks at them and gives them increase in their wrong-doings to wander blindly.

These are they who have purchased error for guidance, so their commerce was profitless. And they were not guided.

Shaykh Abu Abdullah al Hashami حفظه الله says:

"Knowledge is of two types, that which benefits and that which does not benefit

Islamic knowledge is beneficial, that is that knowledge which is linked to Allah and his Messenger

As for knowledge of the Dunya then it can be beneficial or not. That knowledge which a person needs in his life is beneficial. That which distracts a person and leads him away from Allah is harmful.

The basic ruling on knowledge of the Dunya is that it is Mubah"

Shaykh Abdul Kareem al Khudayr says:

"(Islamic) knowledge is not except by way of the Quran and Sunnah"

And he said:

"If someone knows the evidence but does not act upon them or acts in opposition to them then he is in reality ignorant (Jahl) even though he knows the evidences.

For example if he knows Ribba is Haram yet he eats it anyway them he is a Jahl even if people call him an Aalim"

Beware brothers and sisters of leaving the truth, for those who are firm upon the truth are few and the people of falsehood are many.

And consider how Allah warns us from following the majority in misguidance.

Allah says:

1. "But most of them are Al-Fasiqun" (3:110)
2. "And most of them have no understanding" (5:103)
3. "And most of them are disbelievers" (16:83)
4. "But most of them are averse to the truth." (23:70)
5. "And most of them are liars." (26:223)
6. "But, [in fact], most of them do not believe." (2:100)
7. "But most of them do not know." (6:37)
8. "But most of them, [of that], are ignorant." (6:111)
9. "And you will not find most of them grateful" (7:17)
10. "And most of them follow nothing but conjecture. Certainly, conjecture can be of no avail against the truth." (10:36)
11. "But most of them are ungrateful." (10:60)
12. "And most of them believe not in Allah except that they attribute partners unto Him" (12:106)
13. "Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle; nay, they are even farther astray from the Path." (25:44)
14. "Yet most of them are not believers" (26:103)
15. "But most of them turn away, so they listen not." (41:4)
16. "And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah's Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie." (6:116)
17. "Yet most men believe not." (40:59)
18. "And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly." (12:103)
19. "But most men refuse (or deny the Truth or Faith) and accept nothing but disbelief or ingratitude." (25:50)

While we also find within the Quran praise for the few.

Allah says:

1. "But few of My slaves are grateful." (34:13)
2. "Except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and they are few" (38:24)
3. "And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time" (56:14)
4. "Very few of them would have done it; but if they had done what they were told, it would have been better for them, and would have strengthened their (Faith);" (4:66)
5. "And none believed with him, except a few." (11:40)

The Messenger of Allah salallahu alayhi wa salaam said :

"You have not truly believed until you love for your brother what you love for yourself."

The scholars have commented extensively upon this Hadeeth and one of the things it means is that you should love for those Muslims who are astray and misguided to be guided. And you should feel joy when Muslims gain victories and sadness and sympathy when they are oppressed or suffer.

The Hadeeth is general for all the Muslims and we should also want deviants like the Murjiah and Khawaarij to be guided.

And the scholars have also said that if one does not feel this then it shows that that person has a deficiency in his Imaan.

Shaykh Muhammed Ibn Ibrahīm ale-shaykh said:

“If somebody rules with man-made laws and says I think this man-made law is falsehood, there is no proof not to do Takfīr (i.e declaring him Kafir) rather he has replaced the Sharī'ah. It is like a person saying: I worship this idol but I believe it is falsehood. And if its possible to migrate from a country which rules with man-made laws then it is Wājib.”

🍃 Beneficial lessons from the Quran

Despite the heavens and the earth being vast,

"Had there been in the heavens and the earth gods besides Allah, then verily both would have been ruined" (21:22)

So how about your tiny heart if it contained slavery, fear, hope, servitude and glorification for other than Allah!

Nothing will set the heavens and the earth straight except #Tawheed.

And similarly is your heart. If you wish to set it straight, then maintain it and overwhelm it with #Tawheed.

The disbeliever is your enemy.

The disbelievers are your enemies and this does not just include those who are actively waging war upon the Muslims. It includes all of the Kuffar.

Yet we see Muslims who praise some of these people day in and day out and who have love for football players and other well known disbelievers. And this is a serious problem.

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

"Many people have now begun to not differentiate between the Muslim and the Kaafir, and they do not know that the non Muslim is an enemy of Allah, in fact he is an enemy to them also. As Allah said:

"O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies as friends"

And they are enemies to us even if they appear to be friends. Allah said:

"O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliya', they are but Auliya' to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya', then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun.""
