Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus was a Roman farmer and a senator, and in the mid-5th century B.C, he was chosen to be dictator to rescue a surrounded army. Under his command, Roman troops defeated the enemy in just sixteen days, and his victory was celebrated in a triumph in Rome. After his victory he relinquished power and returned to his life as a farmer.
The city of Cincinnati in Ohio was named after him of which a statue of him was erected.
Holding the Fasces and the plow he represents the ideal Roman citizen. Of which our founding fathers would base our country on Roman discipline.
