Twitter becomes X Corp. as Musk advances hopes of creating a mega-app
Twitter Inc. is no longer an independent company after merging with a newly created shell company called X Corp.
It's not yet clear what the change means for Twitter, which has undergone a massive reorganization since Musk bought the company for $44 billion last year. In the past, the billionaire has speculated that buying Twitter would be a "gas pedal" to create X, which he dubbed a "universal app for everything."
The world's second richest man admitted to wanting to make X look like China's WeChat, a super app owned by Tencent Holdings Ltd. that is used for everything from payments and event reservations to messaging.
Musk also owns the domain "X com," the name of an online payments company he founded that eventually merged with PayPal, Bloomberg.
