Hundreds of thousands of residential and commercial locations have been left without power in the LA area as the natural disaster has become so large in proportion that it has captured the nation's attention. Many have been naturally focused on 'thoughts and prayers' for heroic LA and California firefighters, and their hoped-for ability to push back the raging inferno. But several local headlines from prior years make clear that area firefighters could have had more resources to draw from, if significant emergency response supplies and items weren't sent to Zelensky

"Los Angeles County fire crews are sending some of their extra equipment to firefighters in Ukraine," a local March 2022 story reads. "The plane carrying that much-needed surplus equipment, such as hoses, nozzles, turnouts, helmets, body armor and other personal protective gear, is expected to take off Friday."

While supporters of such programs argue that this was all surplus and 'retired' and extra equipment, we are quite sure that in these current dire circumstances surrounding Los Angeles any such 'surplus' could have been used and is still badly needed.

🇺🇸 14 current and former Minneapolis cops say Assistant Chief Katie Blackwell LIED during trial of Derek Chauvin

Blackwell testified that the method of restraint used by Chauvin was not part of MPD officer training. Blackwell had said at the trial "that's not what we train."

However, others say that the "knee-on-neck restaint Chauvin employed was trained under the maximal-restraint technique (MRT), a restraint the MPD taught and allowed until 2023." The officers who signed the declarations "swore that this training was well known—indeed, common knowledge—and omnipresent,"

Reporting on the declarations, Alpha News said that these 14 statements "were among dozens of declarations submitted by lawyers representing Alpha News in a defamation lawsuit brought by Blackwell last October against Alpha News, Alpha News reporter Liz Collin, producer J.C. Chaix, and a publishing company." Blackwell brought suit against Alpha News in response to their documentary "The Fall of Minneapolis," which indicated that Blackwell had not been truthful in her testimony.

🇦🇱❌📱 Albania is the third country, after the U.S. and Romania, that wants to ban TikTok!

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced in late December that he would “block TikTok for one year.” His decision was fueled by outrage over the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old in November following a series of arguments the teen had on social media. After the stabbing, videos surfaced on TikTok showing young people expressing support for the killing.

The decision is based on a “very disturbing pattern” on TikTok, Rama told POLITICO in written comments — and taps into growing concerns about how social media impacts the mental health and safety of youngsters.

But the incoming ban has raised eyebrows among opposition politicians and human rights watchers.

“It’s a pure electoral act and [an] abuse of power to suppress freedom of speech in Albania,” said Ina Zhupa, an Albanian opposition MP.

A European Commission spokesperson said in a statement that the EU executive had “taken note” of Albania’s plan to block TikTok and called it “a sovereign decision.”

“In the EU,” the statement stressed, “any ban of digital services can be considered as a last resort and in relation to an infringement of the transparency and accountability obligations of the law, not in response to individual issues and pieces of online content.”

Germany and France have warned Donald Trump against threatening Greenland, after the US president-elect refused to rule out using military force to seize Denmark's autonomous territory.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said "the principle of the inviolability of borders applies to every country... no matter whether it's a very small one or a very powerful one".

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said "there is obviously no question that the European Union would let other nations of the world attack its sovereign borders".
