Friday vibes. 😁

Reece James will have a scan NEXT WEEK to determine how long he is likely to be ruled out for. Chelsea are 'doing everything they can to support him' as they wait for the final results, which are expected next week.

Some swelling around the hamstring prevented Chelsea from fully scanning Reece James until Saturday.

Maresca has worked particularly hard in training to give Jackson a sharper edge to his finishing to complement his other attributes, and the striker scored six goals in his first 12 games.

Around 70 interviews were conducted to create a sporting structure [at Chelsea].

From that recruitment drive came four key appointments: Winstanley, Stewart, Shields and Vivell.

Next summer, plans are being formulated to delve into the transfer market to further improve the squad.

Most of the work has been done, and there will be no overhaul like the last few windows, but they will keep tweaking.

I understand the idea to speak to Maresca came from Joe Shields, the co-director of recruitment and talent who had spent nine years at Manchester City in the youth system where he had worked with Maresca.

Speaking to multiple sources across the club during the past fortnight, there is a sense bubbling away that he [Enzo Maresca] could coach the team into the next decade.

A Senior Chelsea source: “The football philosophy and style of play, it’s been built so if any one person is hit by a bus you can continue and still be successful.

We don’t anticipate changing that. Enzo is at the right time of his career with the right people to be here a very long time.”

“He’s made players better. He’s an intensely hard worker. You look at why Pep’s successful.

He’s probably the hardest working coach in football even after all the success he’s had.”

🇿🇦 Chelsea currently have a 16-year-old South African called Emile Witbooi undergoing a month-long trial arranged by Joe Shields. He was also tracked by Manchester City and Manchester United.

Todd Kilne has joined Chelsea and is now looking for a front of shirt sponsor for this season, and the club World Cup is seen as a chance for it to get international exposure.

Enzo Maresca:

"Everyone at City, they knew how good Cole [Palmer] is. The only problem is that having so many players there, it's difficult to give all of them minutes, so no one at City thought that Cole was not good enough, no doubt."

🏆 PFA special achievement awards have been delivered to Enzo and Cucu for their achievements for Argentina and Spain respectively. 👏

Enzo Maresca on Reece James:

"He felt something small. Hamstring. It's a muscle problem. We don't want to take any risks for this weekend. Yes [short-term]."

"Excited and thankful [to return to Leicester], because it was a fantastic season. They [the owner and family] are fantastic people. They care..."

"We can attack better. We can defend better. There are only five clubs who have conceded less. So in defending, we are probably doing quite well. We are going to concede goals until the end. I don't know why people are thinking we defend badly..."

"A target for the future to have [Palmer and Felix] play together. Joao is doing fantastic with us since day one, the only problem is to find the balance..."

"The ones that are going to play [against Leicester] are not going to be 100% because they are human beings. Hopefully we can find the right balance..."

"To be honest, we played Arsenal. I left for one week. So I don't know the conversations between the club [and England about Colwill and Palmer's withdrawals]. Some of them are better, some we will test today. Overall, they are much better."

"I know it's not easy, but if every time [James] gets an injury it becomes harder for him it's, for me, even worse. He has to accept and try to avoid as much as he can. Sometimes things happen even if you want to avoid. Hopefully he can be available the next one."

"It was two days ago [he felt something]."

That’s all from the gaffer for now!

Enzo Maresca has arrived for his pre-Leicester City press conference.

Apparently there’s a press conference this afternoon. It’s coming up shortly…

Trevoh Chalobah on leaving Chelsea on loan:

🗣️ "It was hard. With football, challenges have to come. You can't separate challenges and success. I've been through a lot growing up. I didn't let it affect me.

Coming in training, doing my own bit. I waiting patiently, didn't sulk, didn't feel sorry for myself but just got myself ready and I'm here."

Alfie Gilchrist on Sheffield United loan:

“It was just the next step for me, you know? There was a big squad at Chelsea, I wanted to play this season, and this is what I needed to do for myself.”

John Terry:

"Literally from the first training session in which I saw [Alfie Gilchrist], he reminded me of myself. Hopefully, he comes back to Chelsea and breaks through into our team. Alfie and all of his family are Chelsea, too..."
