In the 19th century, mirrors were backed with a thin layer of silver which is believed to be one of the purest metals, perfect for repelling werewolves and vampires. That simple layer of silver is what kept vampires from being able to see their faces in a mirror in the time of Bram Stokerβs Dracula. However, modern mirrors are currently backed with aluminum so the vampires could be able to see their reflections.
