Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is under investigation for alleged involvement in illegal betting, with a potential four-year ban if found guilty.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, betting agency Sisal flagged suspicious wagers on Okoye receiving a yellow card during Udinese’s Serie A match against Lazio in March 2024. The goalkeeper was booked for time-wasting in the 64th minute, which has become the focus of the inquiry.

The investigation also involves Diego Giordano, a pizzeria owner in Udine, suspected of orchestrating the betting scheme. Allegedly, the agreement was made at his establishment and executed at a Sisal betting outlet shortly before the match.

Okoye’s legal team denies all accusations, calling them “baseless” and expressing confidence in clearing his name.

Currently recovering from wrist surgery, Okoye has been temporarily replaced by Norwegian goalkeeper Egil Selvik. The investigation is ongoing.
