Trump says he can end Russia-Ukraine conflict and inauguration day is around the corner
President-elect Donald Trump has made many comments trashing the Biden administration’s handling of the war in Ukraine and alluded to how he could end the war as early as inauguration day. Now, he’s in the hot seat and it seems he’s going to need to decide how to make due on that.
During an interview with host Maria Bartiromo on ‘Sunday Morning Futures’ in 2023, Trump said his relationships with Zelenskyy and Putin were the key.
"I know Zelenskyy very well, and I know Putin very well, even better. And I had a good relationship, very good with both of them. I would tell Zelenskyy, no more. You got to make a deal. I would tell Putin, if you don't make a deal, we're going to give him a lot. We're going to [give Ukraine] more than they ever got if we have to. I will have the deal done in one day. One day," Trump said.
According to the Wall Street Journal, a former Trump National Security Council aide said, “Anyone—no matter how senior in Trump’s circle—who claims to have a different view or more detailed window into his plans on Ukraine simply doesn’t know what he or she is talking about or doesn’t understand that he makes his own calls on national-security issues, many times in the moment, particularly on an issue as central as this.”
The president-elect spoke to the Ukrainian leader as late as Wednesday and has agreed to maintain close dialogue and cooperation.
