A woman bought an old vase for $3.99 that turned out to be an ancient artifact — NYP
Anna Lee Dozier of Washington, D.C., purchased an old vase at a local thrift store for $3.99, not realizing she was holding an artifact nearly 2,000 years old. While on a business trip to Mexico, she visited an anthropological museum and saw similar objects, prompting her to show the vase to experts.
It was revealed to be a ceremonial Mayan urn made between 200-800 AD. Dozier has since given the urn to the Mexican Embassy to be sent to the Mexican Cultural Institute, where it will join other pre-Columbian treasures.
