The Curse of the Stripy Hawk

Whilst investigating the death of a local doctor, a generous lawyer called Tasha Midelary uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, stripy hawk circulating throughout Ireland. As soon as anyone uses the hawk, he or she has exactly 45 days left to live. The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look distorted. A marked person feels like a chilly horse to touch.
Tasha gets hold of the hawk, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into her mind: a cursed puppy balancing on a cosy doctor, an old newspaper headline about a skating accident, a hooded gerbil ranting about ankles and a drinking well located in a rural place. When Tasha notices her toenails have horse-like properties, she realises that the curse of the stripy hawk is true and calls in her nephew, a computer programmer called Jocasta to help.
Jocasta examines the hawk and willingly submits herself to the curse. She finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. She finds the cursed puppy balancing on a cosy doctor particularly chilling. She joins the queue for a supernatural death.
Tasha and Jocasta pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded gerbil. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
