The start and finish of a degree program are pivotal moments in the lives of MIT's graduate students. In her first three years in MIT’s Department of Political Science, professor Mariya Grinberg’s mentorship has helped numerous students start their graduate journeys with confidence and direction.

Professors Mariya Grinberg and Nuh Gedik are honored as “Committed to Caring.”Grinberg believes that failure is an integral part of the learning process and encourages her students to embrace and learn from setbacks. She acknowledges that the pressure to accomplish tasks within time constraints often leaves little room for failure, which can lead to decision paralysis.

🏆MIT team wins grand prize at NASA’s First Nations Launch High-Power Rocket Competition.Building a drone for the first time, the MIT First Nations Launch team excelled in designing a scientific payload to deploy from a rocket and landing it safely.

Deploying the drone from the rocket presented a significant challenge. The competition required that the drone’s separation from the rocket could not rely on gravity. To ensure successful deployment, the students planned to use a black powder charge to push the drone from an interior rail, but they had no prior experience testing explosives to see if it would work as intended.

The MIT First Nations Launch team was formed in 2022 to participate in the annual NASA Artemis student challenge. The team uses Indigenous methodologies and structures to learn and understand how engineers can shape the world through aerospace and beyond

Final preparations are made as the team secures their rocket to the launch pad.

How MIT’s online resources provide a “highly motivating, even transformative experience”

“I have been exposed to the full umbrella of what Open Learning has to offer — and I share that with other learners,” says Charalampos Sampalis, who completed MITx courses and an MIT Bootcamps program.

“What is so beneficial is not just that I get a certificate from MIT and access to a highly valuable repository of knowledge resources, but the fact that I have been exposed to the full umbrella of what Open Learning has to offer — and I share that with other learners,” he says. “I’m part of MIT now. I continue to learn for myself, and I also try to give back, by supporting Open Learning and sharing my story and resources.”

Overall, the community of learners has been a highlight of Sampalis’ MIT Open Learning experience.

The admission process at MIT is very complicated, for example, IELTS and SAT are only used to select students from among candidates. Achievements can be in high-ranking science Olympiads, such as international and national competitions.

At the end of May, members of the Class of 2024 will graduate from MIT and set off on the next phase of their lives, joining the cohort of nearly 147,000 alumni. No matter where these newest grads are headed, they will continue to learn from their peers and, hopefully, from the MIT alumni who came before them.

To that end, here are a few tips gleaned from Slice of MIT’s alumni coverage over the past academic year.

1. Happiness is more important than money.
2. Change the world with acts of kindness.
3. Teamwork makes the dream work.
4. Never stop playing.

Whether you’re an alum or still a student, visit the MIT Alumni Advisors Hub to connect with alumni for career guidance at every step of your journey.

#Overview_of_funding
At the graduate level, financial aid is largely decentralized, as available funds are managed directly by departments

The annual budget or cost of attendance for graduate students is the total cost of an MIT education - $131,561 per student per year.

PLEASE NOTE
Applicants are considered for awards after they have been accepted into a graduate program. There is no separate application for financial aid prior to admission for any program of study.

MIT provides assistance to graduate students experiencing financial hardships, has established new ranges to stipends and changes to health insurance rates and plan benefits, and offers additional health and well-being support resources.

Hardship funds awarded are tax-reportable income and may reduce eligibility for educational loans. If you want to explore how a fund of this type would impact you, please contact us to discuss your options.

MIT’s policy to cap financial aid at a student’s calculated need while allowing outside aid to also reduce the student contribution is embedded in our strong belief that need-based, rather than merit-based aid, is a more equitable way to distribute financial aid dollars. This allows MIT to maximize available funds for the families that need it most.

If your outside aid, which includes the Pell Grant, is greater than your student contribution, we encourage you to contact your financial aid counselor. You may be able to use a portion of your outside scholarships toward the one-time purchase of a computer or to pay for the MIT Student Health Insurance Plan before reducing your MIT Scholarship. You may also want to contact your scholarship organization to see if they can postpone sending the funds for a future academic year that may be more advantageous.

All VA education benefits are treated like outside scholarships, including any housing and book stipends. Any additional money from your VA education benefits, beyond the amount of your student contribution, will reduce your MIT Scholarship.

How an outside scholarship works with your MIT Scholarship

Many MIT students receive outside scholarships. They come from a variety of sources: your home state, a local business, VA Benefits, the ROTC program, a National Merit Scholarship, or even a Pell Grant, which does not have its own application process. The intent of these additional funds is that they be applied to your MIT education.

Scholarships and grants are forms of financial aid that do not need to be repaid. Beyond the MIT Scholarship, undergraduates may receive scholarships and grants from government and private sources.

If you would like to apply for private scholarships to cover your student contribution, we suggest the following resources:

The most common type of aid is the MIT Scholarship. If you receive one, it is a grant that does not need to be repaid.

Our scholarships are awarded based solely on financial need and come from our endowment, gifts from MIT alumni and friends, and MIT general funds. About 58% of our undergraduates receive MIT Scholarships. The median MIT Scholarship was $63,729 for 2022–2023.

MIT Tuition and Fees
Obviously, MIT is very expensive for textbooks and for domestic and international students. MIT's undergraduate and graduate degrees are $49,580 per year. Master's exams may be more depending on the postgraduate course. Also, the dormitory for MIT is $14,210 per year, which is added to the MIT tuition. This top MIT class is too expensive for most students.

However, the MIT scholarship is one of the best scholarships in the world. MIT Scholarships can cover the full cost of tuition at this prestigious university to help international students who are facing financial difficulties. If you want to know more about MIT scholarships, keep reading!
