💢 Happy Jubilee Day of Juneteenth ! 🙏 This is an important day to remember the Emancipation Proclamation, and how it took some 900 days from General Lee's surrender until Granger's order over Texas to actually put into effect the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19th, 1865.
It's also unfortunate that many uninformed or obtuse pundits do not understand why this day is significant to honor, and what it means. They seem to think it means the opposite, or pretend to do so, to play into the sad little politics of a tiny fraction of reactionaries - reactionary emotionally, and politically.
The celebration of Jubilee Day on June 19th (or 'Juneteenth') both draws our attention to the unconscionable practice of chattel slavery, but also how we got past it. See, this works against so many of the critical race theory approaches, because it demonstrates that the framers of the constitution were ahead of their time, and created a platform which both had clear fundamental principles but also an amendable constitution, and courts that could hear new cases afresh and deliver levels of justice to previously disenfranchised layers of American society.
