💬 Germany’s Far Right Is in a Panic Over Telegram

Researchers at Germany’s Center for Monitoring, Analysis, and Strategy (CeMAS) track around 3,000 channels and 2,000 groups linked to the German far right and conspiracy movements. Users are known to post racist and antisemitic hate speech, and some groups contain Nazi symbols, Holocaust denial, and calls to violence, openly flouting Germany’s strict criminal code. But a mass exodus from the platform, where groups have spent the past five years building a global infrastructure for radicalization and offline demonstrations, would be tantamount to starting from scratch online.

If you're a terrorist or you're an extremist, you're going to follow the path of least resistance, and in this particular case, that probably means Telegram.

He called for an “IRA playbook” to be implemented after lockdown was introduced and allegedly had a manual that included viable instructions on making the explosive Semtex.

The court heard he posted thousands of messages to Telegram users throughout 2021. He believed conspiracy theories about a “hidden agenda” and was particularly focused on manufacturers of the Covid vaccine and those who administered jabs.

💬 A far-right German party’s win has some worrying of a return to the past

AfD won its state election in Thuringia on Sunday under one of its hardest-right figures, Björn Höcke.

Deep discontent with a national government notorious for infighting, along with inflation and a weak economy, anti-immigration sentiment and skepticism toward German military aid for Ukraine are among the factors that contributed to support for populist parties.

💬 France orders terrorist trial for far-right group planning attacks against Muslims

A counterterrorism investigating judge in France has ordered a trial before the Paris Criminal Court for a group of 16 people suspected of having prepared violent actions against Muslims in the country between 2017 and 2018, the French news agency AFP reported on Wednesday.

In the order, released on 21 August, the magistrate described the group, Action des Forces Operationnelles (AFO, "action of operational forces"), as a "hierarchical and structured organisation" whose objective was to carry out "concrete violent action projects in symbolic places such as mosques" or by targeting halal food.

The 13 men and three women cited in the court order are mainly suspected of terrorist criminal conspiracy and search for weapons.
