Anthropic drops Opus 5 a cheaper Claude built for daily use, not just benchmarks
Anthropic just released Claude Opus 5. Same price as Opus 4.8 ($5/$25 per million tokens) but positioned as nearly matching Fable 5's intelligence at half the cost.
What's new:
→ Low/Medium/High effort toggle control cost vs. capability per task
→ Self-verifying — checks its own work, recovers from errors without hand-holding
→ 4th Anthropic model launch in under 2 months (after Mythos 5, Fable 5, Sonnet 5)
→ Deliberately NOT the frontier model for cybersecurity/bio-risk that stays with Fable 5
AI race is shifting from "who's smartest" to "who's cheapest to run every day."
Opus 5 is now the default on Claude Max and the top model on Claude Pro.
