The Madonna of the Trail is a series of 12 statues that honor the pioneer women who helped establish permanent homes in the United States.
The statues were created by German-born sculptor August Leimbach.
The statues were dedicated in states along the National Old Trails Road (Route 40), which ran from Maryland to California.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) is a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a patriot of the American Revolutionary War.
