St. Thomas Khuong was a (Tonkinese) Vietnamese diocesan priest who was a member of the Dominican Confraternity of Priests. During the anti-Christian persecution in his land, he was imprisoned several times. On his last arrest, he was ordered to stomp on a cross to show his refutation of Christianity. He, instead, knelt and began to pray. Due to this, he was beheaded with an axe while kneeling before the cross he refused to trample.

Bl. Francis Taylor was an Irish married layperson and martyr. During the anti-Catholic persecution of Anglicans, Catholics were ousted from public office and a purely Protestant parliament was made. He was elected a member of the Irish Parliament, but a Protestant mayor invalidated the election. It was then that he was imprisoned. He preferred to suffer rather than deny his faith. He patiently suffered in prison for seven years.

He was an Italian Oratorian priest. He used his connections with noble bloods who took him as their confessor to improve charity to widows and orphans, and to procure the funding for the Basilica of Superga. He supported catechists and taught catechism himself. He had a profound devotion to the Shroud of Turin which is the cloth supposedly used to wrap the body of Jesus. He supervised repairs to it in 1695.

Today is the death anniversary of the Servant of God Francesco Palliola. He was a Neapolitan Jesuit priest. He was sent as a missionary to the Philippines, particularly in the island of Mindanao. He was on his way to reconcile Tampilo, a native apostate, back to the faith. But, Tampilo and his companions cut his neck and pierced through a lance to it. Palliola died, while holding a crucifix and a rosary, forgiving his killers.

He was elected bishop and was ordained immediately. He was known for his poetic and oratorical abilities plus the clarity and loftiness of his sermons. He was responsible for writing the life story of St. Martin of Tours which made Martin a popular saint.
