Rice Noodles, "Crossing the Bridge"

"Crossing the Bridge" rice noodles (过桥米线, guòqiáo mĭxiàn) is a rice noodle soup originating from the Chinese province of Yunnan. The dish has a history of over 100 years.

The legend behind the creation of this noodle dish tells the story of a scholar who was diligently preparing for his exams. His wife, seeing how hard he was studying, began bringing him food in his study. However, the journey was long, and by the time the noodles reached the scholar, they were cold, and the broth was lukewarm. This frustrated the wife, so she began to think of a solution. Eventually, she decided to pour boiling broth into a large earthenware pot, with a layer of oil on top to act as insulation and keep the broth warm. The noodles and other ingredients were stored in separate bowls. Just before serving, the ingredients were mixed together, resulting in a warm and delicious soup.

The main ingredients of the dish include raw quail eggs, slices of ham, slices of chicken, and vegetables.

The noodles are typically served with a bowl of steaming hot soup. Then, the server stands on the other side of the bowl and adds the ingredients, usually in order from raw to cooked: first the meat, then the quail eggs, and finally the vegetables. The amount of oil, chili pepper, vinegar, and soy sauce added to the bowl varies depending on personal preference.

🔋 Giant "power bank" using CO₂: China launches its first 100 MW energy storage project.

In Mulei County, Xinjiang, China, the country's first 100 MW energy storage project based on compressed carbon dioxide has been successfully connected to the grid. It stores electricity during periods of low demand and releases it during peak periods, responding to changes in load within minutes. The technology is based on a closed-loop system, with CO₂ transitioning between gaseous and liquid states.

❗️Key project parameters:
• Can store up to 290 million kWh annually and release up to 180 million kWh of electricity.
• Continuous generation for over 6 hours.
• The complex consists of 5 gas tanks, 141 liquid storage tanks, and 97 thermal storage modules.

The installation will increase the flexibility of the energy system: it will help smooth out peaks and troughs in demand, regulate frequency and voltage, and increase the share of "green" generation.

Chinese Tattooing

Tattoos (刺青, cì qīng) have a history of thousands of years in China. The Chinese word for "tattoo" (纹身) literally means "applying ink to the body."

Although tattoos have been known in China for centuries, they were largely an unusual practice. Tattooing was often seen as a defacement of the body or something undesirable.

The earliest tattoos were documented during the ancient Shang Dynasty, when the refugees Taibo and Zhongjun shaved their hair and got tattoos in order to gain the recognition of the Jingman people.

The most famous tattoo in Chinese history comes from the legend of the Chinese general Yue Fei. Yue Fei served the Southern Song Dynasty. During a battle with northern enemies, the field marshal under whose command Yue Fei served betrayed the Southern Song and defected to the enemy.

In protest, Yue Fei resigned and returned home. His mother was angry with him, telling him that his duty was to serve the country, no matter what. To remind him of this, she used a sewing needle to tattoo four characters on his back. These characters meant "Serve your country with utmost loyalty."

At certain points in Chinese history, tattoos were also used to identify and punish criminals. People convicted of serious crimes were ordered to have a tattoo applied to their face with indelible ink. This form of punishment was known as "Ci Pei" (tattoo, exile).

🇨🇳 Beijing threatens the EU with retaliatory measures

China’s Ministry of Commerce warned the European Union of a “resolute counterattack” should Brussels introduce discriminatory restrictions against Chinese companies or products.

The trigger was reports that Germany and France are working on a proposal to create a European counterpart to the US mechanism “Section 301” in order to better protect the market from unfair competition. Beijing describes such an instrument as protectionist and warns that, amid continued trade negotiations, the pressure would undermine mutual trust between the EU and China.

Following the stabilization of Beijing’s relations with Washington, a new major trade conflict between China and Europe is taking shape ever more clearly.

China Has F-35 Parts. Thanks, UPS. 🇨🇳📦🇺🇸

[Maybe we should rename UPS to Oops]
No hacking. No spy movie. Just… a delivery that took a rather unexpected detour.

25 September 2026 | Washington–Hong Kong

The F-35 is one of America’s most closely guarded military technologies.

So naturally, some of its parts apparently ended up in China.

Not on a battlefield.

Not through a Hollywood-style espionage operation.

Through the supply chain.

A UPS shipment carrying an Australian F-35 cockpit canopy and weapons-bay door was being sent to the United States for inspection, repair or disposal.

The shipment stopped in South Korea.

Then it was diverted to Hong Kong.

Chinese authorities later took possession of the components, according to people familiar with the matter. U.S. authorities are now investigating and working to retrieve them.

And suddenly the old geopolitical joke writes itself:

China: “We didn't steal the F-35.”

UPS: “We didn't say you did.”

The Pentagon is investigating.

Congress is asking questions.

Lockheed is checking the logistics.

And somewhere, a UPS tracking screen is probably having a very difficult day.

From “Made in America”
to “Where did the package go?”

Welcome to the geopolitics of the global supply chain.

The country has achieved the "First Centenary Goal" – reaching a level of moderate prosperity, and now the Chinese people are working towards the "Second Centenary Goal" – building a modern socialist country. On the international stage, China will continue to pursue an independent foreign policy aimed at ensuring peace, implementing its "global" initiatives in areas of development, security, inter-civilizational dialogue, and governance, promoting the concept of a "community with a shared future for mankind", and strengthening the positive elements and predictability in today's rapidly changing and turbulent world.

The event was attended by Russian Ambassador to China, Igor Morgulov, and his wife. - Russian Embassy in China on TG

China Discovers Major Copper and Gold Deposit in Anhui Province

China has confirmed the discovery of several large mineral deposits, including the Chating copper-gold deposit in Anhui Province. This discovery is one of the largest results of geological exploration in the country this year.

Preliminary estimates suggest that the copper reserves in the deposit are comparable to the resources of several major copper mines, while the gold volumes exceed those of more than ten major gold deposits.

Authorities expect that the deposit will help reduce the region's reliance on copper supplies from other parts of China and from abroad.

🇺🇸🇨🇳Trump-Xi summit wraps up in Washington

Chinese President Xi Jinping just left Washington after a three-day meeting with his American counterpart.

Despite the visual grandeur of the state visit, Trump has not secured major deals on US interests — instead providing China with increased security and stability.

🔴 Trade truce extended until January 10, preventing an immediate return to much higher tariffs

🔴 The summit produced no major breakthrough on tariffs, rare earths, technology restrictions, or other core economic disputes, leaving several US demands unresolved

🔴 Taiwan remains unresolved, as Xi pressed Trump to oppose Taiwanese independence and urged greater US “prudence” on the Taiwan issue

🔴 The leaders discussed artificial intelligence, but there was no clear substantive agreement on AI rules or technology restrictions. Xi emphasized keeping AI under human control, while Trump signaled a preference for leaving current arrangements largely unchanged.

US and China Extend Trade Truce Until January

The United States and China agreed to extend the trade truce, reached in October of last year in Busan (South Korea), by two months, until January 10, 2027, announced the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent after a meeting with Vice Premier He Lifeng of the State Council of China in Washington.

According to Bessent, the two-month extension will give both sides time to negotiate a more comprehensive trade deal. The Chinese Embassy in the United States did not comment on the information.

The US stated that China is fulfilling its commitment to purchase 25 million tons of soybeans, but is lagging behind its plan to purchase other agricultural goods worth $17 billion. Washington also reported delays in the supply of Chinese rare earth metals.

Demand for expensive mooncakes declines in China

In China, demand for expensive gift sets containing mooncakes has significantly decreased ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival. According to Chinese analysts, sales of sets priced above 1,000 yuan (approximately $149) have decreased by about 76%. Meanwhile, more affordable options priced between 68 and 200 yuan (approximately $10-$30) now account for over 60% of the market.

Store owners also report a decrease in corporate purchases: more and more people are buying mooncakes for themselves, rather than as gifts. In one survey, more than half of the respondents cited personal consumption as the primary reason for purchasing mooncakes, while only 43% intended to give them as gifts.

The demand for expensive gifts has partially shifted to other categories, such as tea, bird's nest, and other traditional health products.

Mooncakes, or yuèbǐng (月饼), are a traditional pastry that is typically eaten and given as gifts during the Mid-Autumn Festival. This is one of the most important traditional festivals in China, associated with family reunions and admiring the full moon. The festival is celebrated on September 25, 2026.
