The Green Levie scheme is an attempt to charge retailers and the manufacturers for cost of councils recycling food packaging, and will be an added tax as part of the Net Zero agenda, increasing the cost of household goods.
The scheme could increase shopping bills by up to £140 per year which is an estimated cost overall of £4 billion.
Rishi Sunak is under pressure from his Tory peers to scrap the grocery tax where one former minister, Lord Frost said: “it makes no sense at all to try to cap food prices.”
