You can read the English version of the chapter published earlier today on SRE by clicking on the link below. Viewers of LWH will know the major points of it, but sometimes reading is more enjoyable than watching:

Ukrainianism

Was doing the final check for the latest Dobriansky translation (first Jaziche Project release!) and I must say, I think it's time we do some bone structure analysis or something. These three photos/drawings are supposed to represent him but it looks like 3 completely different people.

At some point you realize the vast majority of English-language books on Rusyns are the same thing repeated in a variety of slightly different ways. Always the same milquetoast attitude, the same topic of being a stateless minority, the same drivel about what our ancestors were like. The same speeches, materials, and events on the same topic.

No second level of material at all that is easily accessible. To find anything worth something you've got to go back decades probably. Even then, the standards are not high.

It reminds me of a documentary on the Villages in Florida. Each year a new crop of boomers blow through the rest of their money to live out their remaining golden years. As someone dies another replaces them, learning the same basic things and doing the same activities until it is their turn.

Much of the whatever can be called the Rusyn diaspora economy revolves around a similar system with the same demographic. A shame I'm so repulsed by it, I could have actually begun to get support for my efforts in some meaningful way.

Firefox out here recognizing the Rusyn language. Nice.

Sometimes it is a good thing that the wicked get a chance at holding power if they are also irrational. When they fail as they are failing now, it will discredit them for years to come.

When you're one of the most influential Rusyns ever, but nobody names their kid after you because of some evil Austrian guy.

A1 Rusyn group lessons probably starting in January. Pannonian Rusyn focus but will teach the basics of Carpatho-Rusyn as well.

All the bells are tolling
In the Galician Capital, and
the weary Thalerhofians are stirring
All across their native land

A procession of mourners
Bearing church banners,
In their bereavement
Are seeking a place to erect a monument

Towards an open area they are bound
And ask for a patch of ground,
And at Thalerhof, following a burial ceremony,
A memorial is dedicated in honor of their memory.

Oh, black jackdaw take to the air,
To the vicinity of Dnieper,
And return with Bohdan’s never
Forgotten words of valor.

Let all people know
About our great sorrow,
Let the news about the rivers of blood
Be heard heard in the regions of the Black Sea.

Let us get together and be eloquent
In our denunciation of cruelty to our Russian [Rusyn] brothers
At the hands of the cruel Austro-Magyars
In the Thalerhof concentration encampment.

Come and attend the mournful adoration
Of the people tortured inhumanely,
And perpetuate their memory
From generation to generation.

As long as we have breath
We shall remind the Russian [Rusyn] generations
To fight to the death,
And uproot the seeds of dissentions.

For our Rus to rise again
And heal her pain,
She must forever wrench herself free
From under the heel of oppressive tyranny

Descendants of the Thalerhof martyrs
For a funeral repast gather here,
And the graves of your renowned forefathers
bedaw with tears sincere.

Children of Thalerhof, come and revere
The memory of your forefather buried here!
Come, decorate their graves and pray
On this annual Thalerhof Memorial Day!

THE THALERHOF MARTYRDOM
By Ekaterina Duchkowich (or possibly Duchkewich)
~1975 or Earlier

Sixty years faded away
Since that tragic day
When a cruel Austro-Magyar
Subjected the orphaned people to a reign of terror.

Our [Carpathian] Rus holy and glorious
Was by nature industrious.
And the Austro-Magyar was at a loss
On how to deal with us

The wind blows incessantly
As the blood bath goes on frenziedly,
The blood flows red over the area
From the east to Pahevorovka.

Carpathian Rus paid heavily
In her struggle for liberty,
In the Thalerhof her braves lay,
Their forelocks in disarray.

The cuckoo bird was cuckooing constantly
In the grove from a snow-ball tree,
A displaced Russian [Rusyn] family wept,
The tragic news from home was difficult to accept.

A strident cawing of a raven I hear
Over our country native and dear,
He was foraging our pastures for food
To sustain his livelihood.

Why are our cornfields wasted?
Why are we invested?
Because the plowmen are resting in peace
There beneath the sod under the pine trees.

There, in the fields, lay breathless
The victims of the king’s willfulness,
Never again we shall hear them singing
Homeward bound from their fields in the evening.

An unfortunate reality is that few other peoples in the last 150 years have gone through as many eras of horror as the Carpatho-Rusyns. These, what we can call national traumas, have molded our people’s culture and politics. Often not for the better. But what are these traumas and what exactly happened? That is what we will be learning today.

At last Dovhovych, I have found your writings! I am not sure if there are any Rusyn authored philosophy texts older than this.

1829 (!!). IX. Isten lételének megmutatására való törekedések

1829 (!!). IX. Efforts to demonstrate the existence of God

For those interested, you can read more about Vasyl Dovhovych here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasyl_Dovhovych

In case anyone wants me to take pictures of specific sections.

Had seen this in other things previously, but posting for people that were wondering if the term Pryashiv Rus had been around for a long time, yes.

Well that certainly is something....Holovatsky, Dukhnovych, Naumovych, Shashkevych, Shevchenko, Tolstoy, and Pushkin all in one illustration. Why? Who knows.

The top three were the Ruska Triytsia, but the bottom row I think was included just to make the illustration look nice.

An oldie reprint from 1970 of texts originally from the late 1800s and early 1900s that the Lemko-Association was selling. Note the Ukrainian Shevchenko and Russian Pushkin on the cover that have absolutely nothing to do with Carpathian Rus. My hopes aren't high but let's see if there's anything cool inside.

The past 4 months have been horrible on X when searching for Rusyn content. Some soccer guy who plays for a team in the UK has the last name Rusyn so I've been inundated with British twats talking about how piss poor of a player he is on my feed.

If anyone was wondering if people like Dobriansky or that generation used or knew the term Lemko, it seems like at least by 1885 the answer is yes.

"No, gentlemen! Our duty is not to promote, but on the contrary to prevent the emigration of our people. It has already begun regardless of our wish in the incredibly suffering Hungarian [Subcarpathian] Rus, which the native population of the region is leaving in droves to free themselves from the unbearable oppression of Hungarian guardianship and at the same time to make a living in America, where the labor force and the extraordinary ability to work that our fellow countrymen, mainly the Lemkos, have are highly valued."

This essay was originally published on rusynsociety.com and is now available in pamphlet format. Both the original Rusyn and English translated versions are contained within this work. Those who live in Subcarpathia are eligible to receive this pamphlet for free by sending an email to faq@rusynsociety.com with proof of your residency.
