Indonesia: city of Cianjur turned into ruinsFootage shows the devastating aftermath of Monday's earthquake that left at least
162 dead and
300 seriously injured. Meanwhile, the search continues for dozens of missing – many of whom were buried under fallen debris.
Cianjur, situated in the country’s most densely populated province of West Java, was near the epicenter of the magnitude 5.6 temblor. The disaster forced terrified locals to flee into the streets, as it was unsafe to stay indoors.
‘I was crying and immediately grabbed my husband and children. If I didn't pull them out we might have also been victims,’ commented Partinem. Her house collapsed shortly after the family left it. More than 13,000 people now have nowhere to live as their homes were heavily damaged.
Due to its geographic location Indonesia is frequently struck by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions as well as flooding.
