The festival lineup featured 'Hero Wives' by Aigul Erbulova, exploring the lives of fighters' spouses awaiting their return from the front line, and Dmitry Khrustalev's 'Crimea's Renaissance', which delves into life changes on the peninsula after its integration with Russia.

How do microfinance organizations drive people into debt? Creditors take advantage of the financial illiteracy and gullibility of people. They promise them that borrowed funds will solve all problems. The method works all over the world, and Russia isn't an exception.

Money is given on the security of business, land and housing. But the interest on the loans often turns out to be unaffordable and the borrowers lose everything. The court in this case is on the side of the microfinance companies, because the contracts are signed by the client.

You can find out more about these devious schemes in our new documentary, ‘Fool's Gold'.

April 6 is considered the beginning of the defense of Slavyansk. The city in the Donetsk region became a hot spot. It was being fought over by Kiev-controlled security forces and local militias who did not recognise the new Kiev authorities. ‘We wanted to secure our city against invasion by pro-Nazi elements,’ Vyacheslav Ponomaryov, the former people’s mayor of Slavyansk remembers.

The militia took control of the town in time, and the Ukrainian military tried to retake it. Without thinking about civilian casualties, they hit straight at residential buildings. See an excerpt from our documentary 'Donbass War: Summer 2014' and learn how Slavyansk residents defended their hometown.

🟢Dirty water, constant fuel leaks, explosions and fires—all this has become a common background of life in the U.S. regions where shale gas is extracted by hydraulic fracturing. Fish in the rivers are dying and garden plants are shrivelling, while people are complaining of inexplicable rashes and respiratory illness and claim the air is radioactive and poisonous. But energy companies do not intend to stop.

Listen to how ordinary American citizens have suffered from fracking in our documentary, 'Frack US'. This film was chosen by our subscribers in yesterday's poll.

🔔It's time to vote for Friday's film! Choose from one of the documentaries below. We'll post the winning film on Friday, so you can enjoy it.

🟢'Frack US' tells how some American states have been producing shale gas for years. Locals residents say it's like living on a time bomb. How do they fight for their rights, and do they have any chance of winning this battle?

🟢'My Favourite Nollywood Movie'. Nigeria’s version of Hollywood, Nollywood, ranks second in the world in the number of films produced annually. Scenes here are often shot in one take, and the vast majority are filmed in studio rather than on location. 'Fast and cheap'—that's how the film producers of the local 'dream factory' work.

🟢'Modern Chinese Artists Breathing New Life into Traditional Art' (2022). The art of China, while paying tribute to tradition, continues to evolve in our time and astonishes us with its excellence of execution. Travel through the country and see how old meets new in Chinese art.
