Iran has announced the discovery of more than 7.5 trillion cubic feet (212.4 billion cubic meters) of natural gas in a field in southern Fars Province, Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad said Sunday.

Around 5.7 trillion cubic feet (161 billion cubic meters) is estimated to be recoverable based on a 72–73% recovery rate, with Paknejad saying the volume is equivalent to roughly 15 years of production from one phase of the giant South Pars field.

The newly discovered gas is reportedly “sweet,” potentially lowering development and processing costs, while the field also contains significant gas condensate reserves.

The Houthis in Yemen struck a tanker 63 nautical miles west of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, causing a fire on the vessel deck.

Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) has announced the establishment of a non-compliance list targeting vessels that violate Tehran’s newly imposed transit rules for the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the announcement, blacklisted vessels could face greater difficulty securing future passage permits, as well as potential fines, seizure or confiscation by the IRGC.

A list has already been published and the majority of vessels currently on it are Emirati- or Qatari-owned. Iran has already introduced a new clearance regime requiring vessels to obtain authorization before transiting the waterway.

A new wave of Ukrainian drone attacks struck Ozon logistics facilities across southern Russia overnight Monday, with the company confirming incidents at warehouses in Adygea, Dagestan and Stavropol Krai. Fires were reported at several sites, while employees were injured at the Dagestan facility.

The strikes mark the latest in a rapid series targeting the Russian e-commerce giant: on August 22, a roughly 135,000-square-meter Ozon hub in the Samara region was hit and operations suspended after a fire and reported injuries, while on August 23, an Ozon logistics center in the Orenburg region was struck, prompting the evacuation of more than 300 employees and another suspension of operations.

Separately, overnight strikes also sparked a fire at a Kuchenland Home warehouse in Krasnodar, while Kamensk-Shakhtinsky in Rostov region experienced power disruptions amid the wider drone attack.

The Iranian regime is being strangled by sanctions, the naval blockade, and mounting economic pressure. As any strategic options are rapidly shrinking, the leadership may conclude that escalation is the only way to alter the equation rather than continue absorbing mounting losses without a shot being fired.

Israel warns Hamas that if the launches toward Israel do not stop immediately, the IDF will intensify targeted operations against those responsible for the launches and will evacuate civilians from areas from which kites, drones, and balloons are launched.

Member of Hamas' Political Bureau, Basem Naim: Israel has given Hamas a three-day ultimatum to stop launching incendiary kites, otherwise it will launch a large-scale aerial attack. In a surreal paradox, a nuclear state that carries out terror daily and is accused of committing genocide in Gaza, is mobilizing large forces and ordering strong action against kites launched from Gaza by children searching among the ruins for their lost innocence.

Lebanon’s pilot-zone test is failing as Hezbollah returned behind the Lebanese Armed Forces

Lebanon’s first test of replacing Israeli military control with Lebanese state authority in the south is showing signs of fundamental failure. In Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, the first area transferred to Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) control under the U.S.-brokered framework, Hezbollah-linked personnel and organizations are operating inside the town while the army controls access but does not appear to be conducting the systematic inspections required to ensure that Hezbollah’s military network cannot reconstitute itself.

The weakness is visible starting with the point of entry to the town - vehicles pass the main LAF checkpoint without any identification checks or searches. Inside the town Hezbollah members, including its local rabet, alongside Hezbollah-affiliated organizations such as the Islamic Health Organization and Wa Taawanou arr operating as usual. There is no evidence of comprehensive searches of private properties, systematic weapons confiscations or dismantling of Hezbollah infrastructure.

The LAF, meanwhile, appears to define its immediate mission more narrowly, emphasizing unexploded ordnance removal, rubble clearance and facilitating residents’ return rather than making Hezbollah’s disarmament its primary operational task.

That creates the central problem with the model: Lebanese deployment and Lebanese sovereignty are not necessarily the same thing. An LAF checkpoint can replace an Israeli position on a map, but if it cannot verify who and what enters behind it, Hezbollah can potentially preserve or rebuild its network beneath the umbrella of state control. The framework therefore risks producing a change in the visible security authority without producing the strategic objective on which further Israeli withdrawals depend - the verified removal of Hezbollah’s armed infrastructure.

A local from Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh said the town has now a large number of military-aged men he identified as Hezbollah members and said: There hasn’t yet been a case that we can point to in Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, which has been cleared, where we can say that the Lebanese army is dismantling weapons depots or dismantling [Hezbollah] infrastructure.

Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh is consequently becoming a test not merely of whether the LAF can deploy, but whether it can actually enforce a monopoly on armed force. If Hezbollah continues operating behind Lebanese lines without meaningful inspections, confiscation and verification, expanding the model to additional areas risks reproducing the same structural weakness across southern Lebanon: Israeli forces withdraw, the LAF moves in, but Hezbollah retains enough freedom of action to regenerate behind the Lebanese state rather than being replaced by it.

Another kite from Gaza was found today morning in an agricultural field near the Israeli community of Kfar Aza, the latest in a series of similar discoveries in Israeli communities along the Gaza border.

Israeli soldiers apprehended the terrorist that carried out the stabbing attack in the Auja area today following a joint pursuit by Israeli security forces.

An Arab tried to snatch an Israeli soldier’s weapon near the West Bank Jewish community of Rimonim.

The soldier, from the Kfir Brigade’s Duchifat Battalion, opened fire and killed the assailant. No Israeli casualties were reported. Additional IDF forces were dispatched to the scene.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sharply rejected calls for elections while the war with Russia continues, warning that a vote under current conditions could destabilize and even fracture the country.

“Elections right now are a tsunami for the state, which will split Ukraine,” Zelensky said, describing wartime elections as a “huge risk” and adding that pursuing them now could effectively “destroy the country.” He said elections could only realistically be considered if Ukraine’s international partners provided sufficient security guarantees, stressing that his current strategy is to bring the war to an end while preserving Ukraine as an independent and sovereign state.

The remarks came after recently dismissed former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov called for a way to restore the electoral process despite the war, while Ukrainian law continues to prohibit elections under martial law.
