The speed of the Russian Army's advance in Ukraine has slowed to October levels
The Russian Army captured 90 square kilometers in Ukraine last week, according to data from the Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState, which was analyzed by the Agentstvo media outlet. This is the slowest rate of advance since the end of October. The speed of the Russian Army's advance has been declining for the second week in a row.
Details. Last week, Russian troops advanced most rapidly in the southern part of the Donetsk region, where they captured almost 50 sq. km. Russia continued to encircle Kurakhove and Velyka Novosilka. According to DeepState, over the past week, the AFU lost Stari Terny, Illinka, and Novodmytrivka near Kurakhove, as well as Blahovatne near Velyka Novosilka. At the same time, the Ukrainian Army managed to recapture Novyi Komar (near Velyka Novosilka), which had been previously captured by the Russians. The Russian Defense Ministry also claimed the capture of Romanivka near Kurakhove, but DeepState did not confirm this information.
▪️Russia increased the area captured near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region by 33 sq. km. Here, according to DeepState, the Russian Army took control of the settlement of Novopustynka. The Russian MOD also reported the capture of the village of Berestky, which DeepState reported on the week before last.
▪️Russian troops occupied about 5 sq. km in the Kharkiv region. At the same time, according to DeepState, the AFU managed to recapture the village of Novomlynsk in the Kupiansk district of the Kharkiv region.
▪️The last time the Russian Army captured less than 100 sq. km was during the week from Oct. 14 to Oct. 20, when 75 sq. km of Ukrainian territory came under Russian control.
▪️After that, the speed of the Russian Army's advance increased. During the week from Nov. 18 to Nov. 24, it took control of 235 sq. km, which became a record at least since the beginning of the year.
▪️However, already next week the speed of advancement slowed to 144 sq. km.
Context. If the decline in the rate of advancement of the Russian Army continues, this could change the dynamics at the front. Since September, the speed of advancement of the Russian Army in Ukraine has only increased. In October, Russia captured a record area since the summer of 2022. In November, it set a record equal to March 2022.
What is going on in the Kursk region. Over the past week, the Russian troops have failed to reduce the territory controlled by the AFU in the Kursk region. Its area, according to DeepState, is the same 546 sq. km as the week before.
