psa random computer garbage
for those with modern desktop systems (read: pcie4+), lately im seeing ppl on forums having an issue that would drive me mad to diagnose
the most recurrent symptoms are "nvme ssd disappears from uefi after a reboot, only way to have it show again is to remove it and put it back" (or sometimes, to unplug the entire computer from the current for a few minutes), but i have also seen it fuck with graphic cards and other stuff
the issue is, believe it or not, the monitor. most often displayport, once or twice hdmi iirc*, but... yeah. you have to unplug the display to fix the ssd. black magic. the reason is that the monitor sends current back to the gpu(?!) and the gpu just dumps it into the motherboard (!?!) and so, some components (like the ssd controller) remain at a low voltage, too low to function, too high to be fully powered off. and since the ssd isnt powered off, it cant be turned on, and the mb cant "see" it
idk whats going on with the current computing ecosystem asides from everything being a choice triangle with "what", "ugh" and "why" on its corners, but this is at least the tenth thread of this issue i see in the wild and im so thankful i havent been a pioneer in discovering that
i've only got painful electric discharges from vga cables for now
*big "iirc"
