💎 Why are transactions taking so long, and will TON get a Layer 2?
As more users join TON Blockchain, the question arises more frequently — why do transactions take so long? A month ago, a broadcast featuring Anatoly Makosov, the tech lead of TON Core, aired on the TON PIZ channel (in Russian). We revisited the broadcast and are ready to explain the problem and whether it’s possible to speed up even the fastest blockchain.
⚫️ In some cases, transaction execution may take up to two minutes. The TON Core team is aware of this issue, understands the technical causes, and is preparing an update for validators on June 10th that will likely optimize the process of generating new blocks in the network.
⚫️ Additionally, there's an issue with some validators using underpowered hardware — plans are in place to introduce penalties for those who do not take their responsibilities seriously and skimp on equipment.
⚫️ Developers of TON DEXs and wallets are also currently working on visual solutions, such as progress bars and additional notifications, to help users more clearly understand the status of their transactions.
⚫️ But what about the October record for the number of transactions per second? The fact is that the main priority of TON Blockchain is its scalability, not the speed of individual transactions. The focus is primarily on network stability even with a large number of users.
🖊 Regarding Layer 2, payment networks are the solution currently under active development. This tool is aimed not only at speeding up blockchain operations but also at reducing fees for microtransactions — we eagerly await announcements in this direction.
