A Meta engineer started filming videos with strangers after burning out — and accidentally saved a Brooklyn bakery from closing.

He walked in wearing Meta glasses, asked the owner to recommend something, and posted the video. It racked up 1.5 million views and 120,000 likes. After that, people started showing up at the bakery. They even began raising money for it — for a freezer and other upgrades.

The owner says that without that lucky encounter, the business would have lasted only a few more months at most.

AI generates a third of new text on the internet. Signs of AI generation or heavy AI editing were found in 35% of material published after ChatGPT launched.

The researchers analyzed 490,000 English-language texts from public websites spanning 2021 to 2026. When older material published before chatbots appeared is included, AI's share drops to 10%.

Commercial sites have the highest share of AI-written text. On .com domains, it's about 10%; on .edu and .gov, about 1%.

Coffee could become more expensive and harder to find. Heavy rains in Brazil washed away about 20% of the coffee cherries, and part of the remaining crop was damaged by waterlogging and mold.

The biggest buyers of these beans include Lavazza, Starbucks, Illycaffe, and others. Normally, 30–35% of the beans meet ICE exchange standards, but this year that share could fall to 10–15%.

As a result, arabica futures have already climbed about 35% since June.

The CIA helped Steve Jobs survive one of the toughest stretches of his career. In the 1980s, his company NeXT had no customers, but the agency ordered thousands of computers from it.

They wanted to buy as many as 20,000 machines, even though NeXT was making only 100 computers a month. In the end, production had to be ramped up to 5,000.

Apple later bought NeXT, and its technology became the foundation of macOS and iOS. Jobs returned to Apple with it.

So the CIA indirectly saved Apple.

AI can hide dangerous "thoughts" from detection: Gemma-2-9B has been trained to bypass safety systems.

When it got the signal "you're being tested," the model changed its reasoning process to evade the detectors. The output stayed the same, but no signs of deception or harm were found.

The trick worked even on tests the model had never seen before.

AI helps students do better on homework, but worse on exams. That’s the conclusion of a study: over six months, Chinese students’ grades rose 18%, while their exam results fell 20%.

The researchers compared the grades of 26,800 students before and after they started using AI. Top students took the biggest hit: on exams, stronger students lost 24% of their points on average, versus 16% for weaker students.

One explanation is that using chatbots creates false confidence in what they know. Students simply spend less time developing that knowledge, which means they are less well prepared for exams.

Anthropic has extended the increased limits for Claude Code — you can use Fable 5 with fewer restrictions through the end of August.

The company wants to make the higher limit permanent, but for now that depends on the load on its servers.

Let’s use it while we still can.

ChatGPT will now make it harder for teenagers to cheat on homework: if a prompt looks like an attempt to get a ready-made answer, the service will suggest switching to Study Mode and working through the problem step by step.

That’s part of the new ChatGPT for teens, which is now the default for users aged 13-17. Age is taken from the profile or inferred from account behavior.

You can turn ChatGPT into Claude: an employee Tibo showed how to triple the context window. That lets the model retain much more of the conversation history and pick things up from just a few words:

Open ~/.codex/config.toml and add or update these settings at the top level, before any [section] headers:
```
model = "gpt-5.6-sol"
model_context_window = 1000000
model_auto_compact_token_limit = 900000
```

There is a downside: it will significantly increase token usage. But in many cases, it will save a lot of time and frustration.

Telegram was removed from the App Store worldwide. But only for a few hours.

What happened: the messenger violated the platform’s rules related to child abuse. Later the developer quickly removed that content and blocked the author.

Telegram is now available in the App Store again.
