SAT English Distribution (UPenn’s example) Stay skeptical when admissions offices claim that “they consider your exam scores in your unique contexts.”
Above is the distribution of SAT scores among UPenn’s admitted students. (
Source: Common Data Set). Evidently, only 5% of admitted students received 699 or lower on the SAT English section.
Who are these 5%? I suspect those are athletes, donors, or students who can compensate with A-levels, IBs, or APs.
Your GPA and SAT is, essentially, the first line of defense:
It is never, and I mean it, the reason why someone gets admitted. But it is surely the cause of why many people’s applications don’t even get to the admissions officers’ tables.
Admissions is brutal. But it is not like we did not know it.
