Behold the signs of life’s decay,
The frozen fields and shorter days,
The weeping of the dying trees,
Is known to us through falling leaves,
For long ago when life begun,
When the ever turning wheel was spun,
It was decreed that all would die,
That live beneath the changing sky,
But once again life would spring,
With all the joy that Sunne brings.
But now her days of light are past,
And winter has set in at last,
We all shall miss her shining rays,
And look for signs of brighter days.
Hail sunne.

I wonder what Peter Steele would have made of all this. For those who don't know, he was the genius behind Type O Negative. He was famous for his antagonistic attitude; penning lyrics and making inflammatory (tongue-in-cheek) statements which attracted the ire of Antifa, for example. He also became quite conservative in his latter years.

I was already a fan, but reading the biography 'Soul on Fire' a few years back really taught me what a fascinating, if flawed man Peter was. His legendary status is deserved.

And as it's October, a listen through of Type O's finest album October Rust is essential.

'English Heritage' describe this marking as reading TIW - the name of the English sky god - however the rune workers amongst you will recognise the runic formula ALU - each rune bearing its mirror image.

Again - found on a burial urn at Spong Hill.

This may be of interest to those of you who have paid close attention to my album/book 'Fire in the White Stone', which is structured around my interpretation of ALU:ULA...

The goddess Fyrgen pt2

I'd like to briefly explore another idea regarding the name Fyrgen which I've seen suggested. This coming from the Old English root fyrh or furh which meant Pine or Fir tree. Interestingly the PIE root for this was *pérkʷus which is also the root of Oak. The Norse cognate Fjörgyn is the name of Thor's mother (Thor being the Oak and Thunder god). The Old English word Gyr also meant Fir tree. Fyrgen the Fyrh-Gyden (Fir goddess) maybe?

I'm giving you Telegram lot first dibs on these... I've ordered a handful of copies of the new edition of the storybook, to go with the handful of remaining hand-signed and number A2 prints. All at a really low price, £44.99 for the bundle.

Big news folks!!! Due to popular demand, a new 3rd edition of my 2019 short story 'Fire in the White Stone' (a companion to my album of the same name) is now available, this time as a paperback featuring new cover art. It can be bought from the widely used webstore lulu.com and the purchase price has been kept as low as possible for you.

This, along with merch, is one of the few ways I can make any money from my musical (and related) efforts. Please consider picking up a copy if you have a few bucks to spare. The story is suitable for older children, but should also give adults plenty to mull over - especially when read in tandem with the music.

For those wondering... I still plan to host a northern woodland Wolcensmen concert. Just waiting for Summer to return up here before I arrange anything (it'll only work if the weather is good).

New interview with Swallowed in Black, fresh off the press.

“THIS IS THE CULMINATION OF DECADES OF INDIGNITY, SOCIAL CONDITIONING, MORAL DEGRADATION AND UPROOTEDNESS FROM THE GREATNESS OF OUR FIGHTING ANCESTORS”WOLCENSMEN

https://www.swallowedinblack.com/wolcensmen-interview/

DETAILS FOR THIS EVENING

Location:
Marlow Common, near Marlow-on-Thames. There's a triangular junction within the woods where the 3 lanes Marlow Common, Bockmer Road and Hooks Lane meet. Near this junction there are several small laybys to park in. Park there (considerately) and walk into the woods where you see a red Wolcensmen banner. There may be someone to help direct you. Walk carefully... there are obvious trenches in these woods from WWI training. Less than a couple of hundred yards from the road you should hear a gathering, will see another red Wolcensmen banner, and may see a campfire. If you've not found the place of performance by 8pm, feel free to start calling out.

Anyone travelling by train should aim for Marlow train station then walk through town and out the other side to reach Marlow Common. It's a 40-60 minute walk.

Meet at 7:30pm, I'll start playing at 8pm and will be finished by 9pm. Anyone who wishes to can stick around to socialise for an hour or 2 afterwards. I will have some Wolcensmen 'Swans' t-shirts and ladies' t-shirts (£15) and 'Grimnir' sweatshirts (£30) for sale at my car if anyone's interested (please bring exact change as I may not have any).

Considerations:
- There will be no amplification - just myself and an acoustic guitar - and seemingly, a larger audience than I expected. So please be as silent as possible while I'm playing, else people won't be able to hear. If someone's being deliberately disruptive I would be grateful for any assistance in dealing with them.
- Children and dogs are welcome, as long as they're not continually disruptive.
- If you want to bring drinks or snacks, make sure you take ALL litter with you, and do not burn it in the fire. There are no bins and it's an unspoilt woodland that many locals enjoy.
- If I manage to get a campfire going, please help me to keep it going between songs.
- I see no reason why locals, walkers or police will be bothered by what we're doing but there is a remote possibility we'll be approached. It is public access land, after all.
- Weather forecast is good but be prepared for whatever. Any significant rain or wind would end or cancel the show.
- You may need a torch or something for returning to your car.
- Don't expect anything more than a very bare-bones, lightly-rehearsed rendition of songs which have far more complex instrumentation on record. Mistakes guaranteed.

I look forward to seeing you all there. And remember - this isn't meant to be about me. I've organised this because I want to encourage people to find new (or rather, old) ways of enjoying live music and real social contact again, amidst fitting surroundings. Meet one another and remember what it's like to be a human being, unplugged from the matrix.

FAO northern folk... still planning to host a little concert in the Peaks too this summer... assuming the southern ones goes well.

Details of the exact location will be given on Saturday morning, but you will need a car to reach it (unless you fancy walking I guess about an hour from the nearest train station, sorry). Weather forecast says it'll be warm and dry, but dress so that you're prepared for anything (if the weather turns in advance I would be forced to cancel).

The performance itself will be me and a guitar - very casual, very low-key. I won't be in any way amplified so silence will be necessary while I'm playing. There'll just be one act - 45-60 minutes long - but I'll be sticking around for an hour or 2 afterwards to socialise. I'll also probably encourage people to ask any questions they may have about the songs, between songs. It won't be formal in any way, and it's not about me vs the crowd. It's a bringing gig-starved people together for a celebration of some contemporary dark folk music.
