PANDORA FALLOUT: UK Urged to Tackle “Dirty Money” While Czech Police Investigate PM Allegations
Britain’s Conservative govt is facing calls to tighten the regulations against “dirty money” after a leak of almost 12 million files showed how London in particular, is the destination of choice for the wealthy to conceal their cash offshore.
A director at Transparency International UK said the disclosures should act as a “wake up call” for the govt as “once again Britain’s role as an enabler of global corruption and money laundering have been exposed.”
The Czech police’s organized crime unit announced on Monday it will look into the Pandora Papers after documents claim PM Andrej Babis failed to declare an offshore investment company in the British Virgin Islands and used it to purchase 2 villas for €14.04MN in the south of France.
Babis blamed the "Czech mafia" with the release just days before Friday's election in the country.
