After the war, the 11th Tank Unit of the 11th Brigade of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, stationed in Hokkaido, commemorated the heroic fighting and achievements of the 11th Army Tank Regiment (commonly known as the "Shikon Unit") in the Battle of Shumushu and inherited that spirit. The unit also bears the name "Shikon Tank Battalion" (Shikon), which is still used today, with the characters "Shikon" painted on the sides of the turrets of its Type 61, Type 74 and Type 90 tanks as its unit emblem.
