Hello my name is Dr Bezawit W/Aregay Wagaye. I am a St. Paul Millennium Medical College 2019 alumna. I am medical director at Mekedonia Charity Association which is home to more that 2,000 elderly and mentally ill beneficiaries. We are also preparing to receive 2,000 more elderly in the coming weeks.

I am truly grateful to have been blessed to work at such a place of need at such a young age. And every day of stay has been special. I especially enjoy my interaction with my patients and getting to know them. I am learning every day, that all that need to flourish is just a little bit of love. My education and internship in Saint Paul has helped me tremendously, by giving me the opportunity to explore diverse specialties and patient demographic. I feel honored to have been thought by briliant teachers and mentors. They thought me a great deal of medicine and life. All this has prepared me for the task ahead and I confidently face the world with quality education. Also my bosses (Dr Benyam Belete and his wife Mrs. Eleni G/Eyesus) are young humanitarian visionaries with incredible work ethic. I want to thank them for giving me the opportunity to work with such wonderful patients. And just being around them is a humbling, motivating and educating experience.

Mekedonia was started in Dr. Benyam’s house 7 years back and is now constructing a 13 story hospital which will have around 1,200 beds. This hospital will be a place of healing for the needy. All this is being done through contributions of the people. And so many needy helpless elderly who where once hungry, in need of shelter, safety and medicine have now found a safe loving home. We are expanding in all parts of the country and this week we expand our home in Harar. All this work needs a tremendous amount of resource. And we appreciate any material, financial or volunteerism contributions made in any way. And any quantity is appreciated, especially during this COVID-19 crisis. Helping out here is truly a heart warming experience, because the difference in people’s lives is visible. Thank you for reading and I hope to see you soon in Mekedonia.

ዌቢናሩከሳይንስና ከፍተኛ ትምህርት ሚኒስቴር በፌስቡክ ገጽ በቀጥታ ይተላለፋል። መሳተፍ የምትፈልጉ ደግሞ ሊንኩን ዌቢናሩ ከመጀመሩ ከ 5 ደቂቃ ቀደም ብለው አዘጋጆቹ ይልካሉ።

We all have things to be thankful for. Today, on International Nurses Day we say thank you to #nurses around the country and world for all they do to ensure access to health for everyone, everywhere. Why I am a surgeon?

My name is Dr.Hanan Alebachew.I was born in Jimma and raised in Addis Ababa. The role of my parents was tremendous for me to decide to be a medical doctor and a surgeon. I studied my under graduate at university of Gondar. During my stay in Gondar University, on my attachment at surgery department something caught my attention. When you are a physician you treat a patient with knowledge, passion and with all your heart. But in surgery, in addition to all of that you learn the art and skill of using your own hands to tackle a disease and heal the patient. That is so fascinating for me. So I decided to be a surgeon and Studied surgery at SPHMMC.
My parents were also on board. But some people gave me comments and questions like” you are female, can you really handle it?” “ Have you really taught about it?” “Oh! Definitely you are not going to have a life “ and a lot more. But I believe in one thing, career has no gender, neither your dream nor a passion. Anyone can succeed with hard work. Besides in our country and continent there are few number of female surgeons. I want to address female undergraduates, who are interested in surgery it is acheivable. For those who say it is demanding, I know for sure women are strong and can handle a lot.The main question should be “how bad do you want it? And what can you do about it?” .
Currently I am practicing as an assistant professor of surgery at Saint Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College, and a Fellow of COSECSA. I am married and have one kid. I believe the work ahead of me is enormous. I have to work harder and serve my nation, my country and mankind as a whole
