#SouthAfrica

South Africa deployed its troops to Mozambique on Friday following an attack by ISIS's local affiliate, the Islamic State Central Africa Province, on the northern town of Palma. This comes as French energy giant Total on Friday said it had withdrew all staff from the region and ceased operations.


#Mali

Families of those killed in a French air strike on a wedding in the central Malian village of Bounti have called for the prosecution of the military personnel involved in the operation, which the United Nations has concluded could amount to a war crime.

According to a UN report, at least 19 civilians were killed at the wedding. Three suspected fighters were also killed. France's military has rejected the findings of the report and denied that a wedding had taken place that day. This week, the French also reiterated their claim that they had killed 30 "militia fighters" in the January attack.


#Somalia

Al Shabaab fighters attacked the Bariire and Awdhigle bases of the Somali National Army on Saturday morning. The bases, located about 100 km (60 miles) southwest of the capital Mogadishu, were simultaneously struck by two explosions and fighters. A third explosion targeted a convoy of troops rushing to the bases from Mogadishu with reinforcements.


#IndianOccupiedKashmir

Protests erupted in a village in Pulwama district on Friday in Indian occupied-Kashmir against the end of Indian rule over the region. The protests followed the killing of three suspected freedom fighters in a shootout with Indian troops.

The gunfight took place shortly after scores of counterinsurgency police and soldiers launched an operation based on a tip-off about the presence of the fighters in Kakpora village in southern Pulwama.


#France

The French Senate have passed a bill banning the wearing of the headscarf for Muslim girls under the age of 18 across the country.

The law has not yet come into effect as it is yet to be ratified by the National Assembly. However, it is not expected that the National Assembly will pass the bill.

France has about five million Muslims, the largest Muslim minority in Western Europe. France already has a ban on wearing the headscarf - known as a hijab - in French schools, and for public servants at their place of work.

An Iraqi leader of the "Islamic State" group was arrested by counter-terror forces in Mosul on Thursday.


#UAE

An image of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he visited the Crown Prince of the UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed, in 2019.

Modi on the visit, in 2019, was honoured with the 'Order of Zayed', the UAE's highest civilian award, as a mark of appreciation for his efforts to boost bilateral ties between the two countries.

The award has earlier been bestowed on several world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Queen Elizabeth II and Chinese President Xi Jinping.


#UAE

The foundation work of the UAE's first Hindu temple will be completed next month in Abu Dhabi. The temple is expected to be completed in 2023.

Once completed, the temple will have seven spires and five domes. The complex will have a visitor's centre, prayer halls, library, classroom, community centre, seating area, amphitheatre, play areas, gardens, books and gift shops, food court and other facilities.

On February 11th 2019, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, laid a foundation stone for the Hindu temple.


#Bangladesh

At least three Rohingya refugees were killed and 20 shops were gutted when a fire broke out in a makeshift market at the Kutupalong refugee camp in Cox's Bazar. This is the second such incident in the last ten days. Last month, another fire at a refugee camp in Cox's Bazar left 15 people killed, 560 others wounded and around 45,000 homeless.


#Egypt

Egypt is expecting more than $1 billion in compensation after the huge Ever Given container ship blocked the Suez Canal for nearly a week, according to the top canal official. The amount takes into consideration the salvage operation, costs of stalled traffic, and the lost transit fees for the week that it had blocked the Suez Canal.


#Pakistan

The cabinet of Pakistan, on Thursday, put on hold a decision made by the country's top economic decision-making body to allow imports of cotton and sugar from India until its neighbour reviews a 2019 move to revoke the special status of Indian-occupied Kashmir.


#Iran

A report by the UN's atomic watchdog, obtained by Reuters, has found that Iran has started enriching uranium with a fourth cascade of advanced IR-2m machines at its underground Natanz site, in a breach of the 2015 nuclear deal.


#Lebanon

Germany will present a multi-billion-dollar proposal to Lebanese authorities next week to rebuild the Port of Beirut. The proposal was made as part of an effort to draw the country's politicians to form a government capable of preventing financial collapse.

The Biden administration on Wednesday said that Israel's control of the West Bank is indeed "occupation," clarifying its stance after the release of a report that seemed to downplay the term. Ned Price, the US State Department's spokesman said that the State Department's annual report on human rights "does use the term 'occupation' in the context of the current status of the West Bank".

Civilians in Matama district in Yemen's al-Jawf governorate held a protest on Thursday against Houthi corruption and looting of humanitarian aid.


#Niger

The government of Niger has issued a statement saying "an attempted coup" had been blocked and condemned what it called a "cowardly and regressive act which sought to threaten democracy and the state of law". The statement added that "the situation is totally under control," and called on the public to "carry on with normal life."


#Afghanistan

Taliban's political spokesman, Dr Mohammad Naeem, has reiterated his stance to Turkey's state-run Anadolu media agency on the Taliban's main demands.

Dr Naeem said that in an upcoming meeting planned to be hosted in Turkey, the Taliban's main demands will be the withdrawal of foreign troops by the agreed date and an Islamic system of governance.

He also said once the foreign forces leave, then all internal matters would be resolved by them and other political parties.
