[The Third Issue]:
This creed, which al-Ṭaḥāwī — may Allah have mercy on him — mentioned, was based on the maḏhab of the fuqahāʾ (ie: jurists of) the Ummah:
Abū Ḥanīfah, Abū Yūsuf, and Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan.
These scholars, according to the people of Ḥadīth and Āthār (ie: narrations), agreed with the Sunnah and the Jamāʿah (community) on most issues.
However, they opposed them in an ʿaṣl ʿadhīm min ʾuṣūl al-dīn (ie: significant foundational principle of the religion), namely al-īmān (ie: faith).
For this reason, they were labeled as Murjīʾah al-Fuqahāʾ (the Murjīʾah among the jurists).
They were called Murjīʾah because their view on faith aligned with that of the Murjīʾah sect; they deferred actions from being part of the essence of faith
And said, “All its adherents are equal in its essence.”
They were referred to as Murjīʾah al-Fuqahāʾ because they were jurists, renowned for this designation.
Ṣāliḥ b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Āl ʿl-Shaykh, Sharḥ al-Ṭaḥāwīyyah 1/6
