Over 1,000 People Die in Saudi Arabia Due to Heat Wave
More than 1,000 people have died in Saudi Arabia as a result of an extreme heat wave. In Mecca, temperatures reached a scorching 51.8 degrees Celsius (125.2 degrees Fahrenheit) in the shade. Many of the deceased were unregistered pilgrims, with their bodies found lying in the streets.
Over 2,000 people have suffered heatstroke and are currently hospitalized.
This year, approximately 1.6 million Muslims from 22 countries participated in the Hajj pilgrimage.
