🧹 How to make Steam barely use any resources

Steam out of the box is bloated. Animations, background features, recording tools… all running while you just want to launch a game. If you’re on a modest PC, that overhead actually hurts. So let’s strip it down.

🎥 First: disable Game Recording
If you’re not a streamer, this should never be on. It constantly touches your disk and reserves RAM for no reason. Turn it off and your SSD (and memory usage) calm down instantly.

📡 Second: kill Remote Play
Not streaming your PC to another device? Then it’s just sitting there enabled by default, waiting to consume resources. Disable it. Simple.

📺 Third: disable Steam Broadcasting.
Be honest. Have you ever streamed to friends through Steam? Exactly. Yet it still eats RAM in the background. Set it to “Broadcasting Disabled” and forget it exists.

🎬 Fourth: Library Low Performance Mode.
Steam’s modern library looks slick… and runs like a website with too many scripts. Enable Low Performance Mode and remove those fancy transitions and animated fluff. FPS > eye candy.

🧩 Fifth: trim the Interface.
Go to Interface settings and start unchecking. Big Picture at startup, extra notifications, web helpers, all the stuff you never use. Steam is a launcher, not a social network.

If your PC struggles, aesthetics are a luxury. Stability is priority. Configure Steam like a tool, not a theme park. Your system will breathe easier. Steam shouldn’t consume more resources than the game itself.

Microsoft just confirmed it’s investigating boot failures caused by the January 2026 Windows update KB5074109. Some PCs install it and then won’t start, throwing the stop code UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME and looping into a black screen crash. 🖥

It sounds mostly tied to certain Windows builds and possibly business-managed devices, and Microsoft says reports are limited for now. Still, if you haven’t installed it yet, the smart move is to pause updates. If you already got hit, you’re basically forced into Recovery mode, and in the worst case, a clean reinstall.

Rockstar might let a terminally ill fan play GTA 6 early, after a Ubisoft Toronto dev asked for help on LinkedIn. Take Two’s CEO reportedly reached out, and the family says they got "great news" and are now waiting on Rockstar to finalize it.

The only thing I don’t buy is how confident the headline sounds. Until Rockstar confirms it, it’s still a maybe.

Amazon is about to pull the plug on New World, and the internet did what it always does when a game is dying: someone showed up with a check. The Rust director dropped a "final offer" of $25 million to buy it and keep it alive, with the simple argument that games shouldn’t just vanish. 🤑

It might be a joke, but the point is real. If Amazon won’t run it, at least let the community do it. Private servers. Public hosting. Hand the keys over and let it live on, like the best survival games always do. 👀

🏝🚫 Nintendo just pulled the plug on one of Animal Crossing’s most infamous creations in Japan: the “Adult Island.” After five years as a weird underground tourist spot, its Dream Address was deleted overnight.

And the creator didn’t even rage. They apologized, then basically said “thanks for looking the other way this long.” Now the island only exists in old YouTube tours, as a reminder that give players enough freedom, and someone will always build something cursed.

👏 Sony just quietly erased over 1,000 games from the PlayStation Store overnight. No warning, no statement, just one developer gone: ThiGames, the “Jumping Taco” factory you’ve probably seen clogging up sales pages.

🤖📺 LG just pinned Copilot to your TV. You can’t uninstall it.

After a webOS update, LG TVs now show a Microsoft Copilot tile locked to the home screen. Hide it, maybe. Remove it, no chance. And that changes the deal on a device you already paid for.

This isn’t deep AI magic. It’s basically a web shortcut. But the real issue isn’t AI. It’s consent. Nobody asked.

Smart TVs already track enough. Add an always-there assistant and trust drops to zero. That’s why people unplug WiFi, use HDMI boxes, block updates. Not to be fancy. To stay in control.

Today it’s “you can’t remove it”. Tomorrow it’s “there’s no version without it”. And one day, you pay extra to turn the noise off.
