The Big Day: Turning Pressure Into Performance

On the morning of the test last Monday, I felt a mixture of nerves and quiet confidence. I knew I had done everything I could to prepare. The reading and listening sections were challenging but manageable. By the time I reached the speaking section, I surprised myself with how calm and composed I felt. The writing tasks, which used to intimidate me, flowed naturally.

When the results arrived a week later, I couldn’t hold back my tears: 109 out of 120. After months of hard work and two failed attempts, I had finally achieved my goal.

Key Takeaways and Final Thoughts

To say something about my toefl journey, I’ve learned some invaluable lessons:

1. Have a Strategy: Success in toefl isn’t just about studying day and night in a hard way it’s about studying smart. I strongly believe this. A structured plan tailored to your strengths and weaknesses makes all the difference.

2. Seek Help: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Working with an expert like Mr. Mesfin transformed my preparation and gave me the tools I needed to succeed.

3. Use the Right Resources: Platforms like Magoosh ( though it's the resources but It helped me get familiar with the test, TOEFL Resources, TestDen, and BestMyTest were instrumental in my success.

4. Practice Like It’s the Real Test: Simulating test conditions helped me build confidence and overcome distractions.

5. Believe in Yourself: Perhaps the most important lesson of all is trust your journey and know that success is within reach.

To anyone preparing for the toefl: it’s not easy, but it’s absolutely possible. Whether it’s your first attempt or your third, keep pushing. With the right guidance, the right resources, and a relentless determination, you can achieve your dreams.

And to Mr. Metages Mesfin, thank you for everything. This score is as much yours as it is mine.

From Frustration to Triumph: How I Scored 109 on TOEFL

Three attempts, countless hours of preparation and a relentless dream to succeed my journey to achieving a toefl score of 109 is a story of grit, growth, and gratitude. As a dentist juggling a demanding career, I often found myself overwhelmed, questioning if I could ever conquer this exam. But the moment I saw my results : Reading: 27, Listening: 25, Speaking: 29, Writing: 28, I knew every ounce of effort had been worth it.

This wasn’t just a test of English proficiency; it was a test of character, resilience, and the courage to rise after every fall. Let me take you through this tiresome yet interesting journey, from self-doubt to triumph and the lessons I learned along the way.

The Struggle: Two Attempts and a Series of Missteps

When I took the toefl test for the first time, I was confident. I believed my English was strong enough to ace the test with just a few weeks of preparation. Armed with the ETS Official books and some basic practice tests, I walked into the exam room only to walk out defeated. My score fell far short of my expectations.

Not one to give up easily, I redoubled my efforts for the second attempt. This time, I added TPO materials and online resources like the Magoosh TOEFL Blog and Test Resources to my study plan. But my preparation was scattered and unfocused. While I improved slightly, I still failed to meet my target score. It was disheartening to say the least.

That’s when I realized I needed help. A friend introduced me to Mr. Metages Mesfin, a highly recommended TOEFL tutor. Hesitant at first, I decided to give it a shot. Little did I know this decision would change everything.

Meeting the Mentor: How Mr. Mesfin Transformed My Preparation

Mr. Mesfin didn’t just provide lessons; he gave me a roadmap. From day one, he identified my strengths and weaknesses and created a study plan met specifically to my needs.

Speaking, which had always been my weakest section, became the focus of our sessions. With my Hispanic accent, I struggled to organize my thoughts and deliver responses confidently. Mr. Mesfin broke the task into manageable steps, teaching me how to craft structured, coherent responses. His constant feedback and encouragement helped me go from scoring 23–24 in practice tests to achieving a phenomenal 29 in the actual exam.

For the reading and listening sections, he introduced me to challenging materials like TPO 60–75 (which felt like GRE passages at times!) and platforms like EnglishTestPortal.com and BestMyTest. At first, the difficulty was overwhelming, but with his guidance, I learned how to approach summary questions, eliminate distractors, and efficiently skim passages for key ideas. These strategies paid off as I secured a solid 27 in reading and 25 in listening.

Writing, on the other hand, required discipline and structure. Mr. Mesfin taught me how to create essays that were not just grammatically accurate but also rich in content and logically organized. He encouraged me to use resources like Notefull.com and TOEFL Resources by Michael Goodine to practice the academic Discussion question and integrated tasks. After countless revisions and feedback sessions, I finally mastered the art of crafting responses that impressed the raters, earning me 28 in writing.

The Final Push

With just weeks left before my test date, we shifted our focus to realistic simulations. Mr. Mesfin emphasized the importance of practicing in test like conditions, encouraging me to use platforms such as ExamEnglish.com and TestDen. He also had me practice speaking in noisy environments to mimic the distractions of a test center a strategy that turned out to be invaluable.

Beyond the technical aspects, he taught me to believe in myself. “Trust your preparation,” he would say, a mantra I repeated to myself countless times leading up to the test.

Hello, everyone!

I got my TOEFL score today. I have already shared my scores with my teacher Metages but I’d love to share my TOEFL journey with you all. As someone seeking a pharmacy license , I faced a significant challenge with time management. I had only 25 days to prepare for the TOEFL exam after wrapping up a hectic schedule, leaving me physically exhausted and mentally drained. I had never taken the TOEFL before and discovered it through the free practice tests on TestGlider and the ETS website.

Despite my limited preparation time, I watched a few videos about the speaking and writing sections, memorized some templates and did my best to stay focused. However, I couldn’t shake off the feelings of hopelessness and doubt, especially after seeing others share their stories about preparing for months and still struggling. And also seeing others TOEFL success in this TOEFL group really made me more inspired.

One thing I’ve learned from this experience is that preparation matters especially for writing and speaking but your performance on the exam day matters even more. I encountered unexpected challenges during the listening section due to external noise, which left me worried but to my surprise, I ended up scoring 27/30!

Looking back, I believe I could have done better in speaking and writing if I had more time and energy. However, I want to give a big thanks to Metages Mesfin @Meti_2323 for his excellent speaking and writing classes which played a crucial role in my success.

To anyone preparing for TOEFL, remember don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone’s journey is unique, and your mindset on exam day can make all the difference. Stay confident, stay focused, and believe in yourself!

Hi Metages! 🥰♥️
Here are my toefl scores!
I wanted to share a bit about my toefl journey and thank this great telegram channel TOEFL ZONE for the materials and tips. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without it .
I got 109 on my toefl test.

Here are some tips that worked for me, and I hope they can help others too:

Reading:

Focus on understanding the passage, not just answering questions.

Skim-read the paragraph in question first; don’t jump straight to keywords.

Read all answer choices thoroughly to eliminate wrong options.

Listening:

Take as many notes as possible, but don’t lose focus on the audio.

Write down notes even if you don’t fully understand every detail.

Review all answer choices to narrow down the correct one.

Speaking:

Manage your time well, aiming to finish 2-5 seconds early.

Q1: Keep it simple and casual, using detailed examples and conversational language.

Q2: Follow a template; start with the proposal, then explain the student’s opinion.

Q3: Begin smoothly, defining terms like “well, Y is when…” and include the professor’s examples.

Q4: Introduce the topic first, like “the professor discusses Y,” then go into the examples.

Writing:

Q1: Start with a general intro and restate both sides’ opinions. Summarize if time allows, and check for typos.

Q2: Take a clear stance, support it with an example, and, if possible, point out weaknesses in the opposing view.

I’m so thankful to you Metages for being part of my journey, thank you for your amazing and fun online class as well.
Good luck to all of you on your toefl preparation 🥰

Hey everyone, my name is Dietsche.
I really need some advice and support. I'm a dentist, practicing here in the U.S., and for the past year, I've been on this endless journey trying to pass the TOEFL with the score I need. I can’t even count the hours I’ve spent studying late nights in the clinic office, going over vocabulary flashcards in between patients, listening to lectures on my lunch breaks.

You see, my family made huge sacrifices to get me here. I worked so hard to become a dentist, and now I just want to practice fully, give my family the life they deserve, and feel like this journey wasn’t for nothing. But TOEFL has been a nightmare. It’s like every attempt takes a little more out of me. I feel humiliated sometimes, like all my education and hard work are invisible behind these scores. My last attempt? Missed it by just one point in speaking.

It’s just so draining. I know I’m skilled, I know my field, yet I feel like I’m falling short every time I open that score report. My family is supportive, but they can see it’s breaking me. It’s hard to look my kids in the eyes, knowing that one test is standing between me and the career I trained my whole life for. Has anyone else gone through this? I really need advice, and honestly, I just need to know that I’m not alone in feeling this way. Thank you.
