The ‘Nevsky’ volunteer brigade was formed in 2022 by people who had already taken up the defence of Donbass back in 2014. Today, its ranks bring together men from every corner of Russia. These include entrepreneurs, engineers, and teachers who left behind careers and businesses to join the fight, seeing it as their personal duty to hasten a shared victory.

Over the course of the conflict, the brigade has grown into a large formation. It now includes several assault battalions, a tank battalion, an artillery division, and one of the largest unmanned aviation units on the front, complete with its own engineering laboratory. The brigade saw fierce battles in Artyomovsk, Kleshcheevka, and Soledar, took part in the liberation of Kursk Region, and continues to hold positions in key sectors of the frontline.

For these soldiers, strength of spirit matters as much as firepower. They draw support from the legacy of their heavenly patron, Alexander Nevsky. Military doctors and chaplains serve shoulder to shoulder with them, helping fighters preserve their resilience, both in body and in spirit, amid the brutal conditions of war. ‘Frontline Mali’ is a film about how the African Corps of the Russian Ministry of Defence is helping preserve constitutional order in Mali.

The country has been at war since 2012, when the Tuareg launched an uprising in the north, while ISIS* and Al-Qaeda** cells became active at the same time. France deployed troops, but the militants continued expanding the territories under their control.

After rejecting French support, Mali turned to Russia. In 2025, African Corps units arrived in the country. They conduct reconnaissance and search operations, work in deserts, savannas and forests, and clear roads of mines. A medical unit treats both Russian and Malian servicemen, while the fighters themselves describe the Corps as one big family.

In April and early July 2026, a coalition of terrorist groups attempted to seize key cities and facilities. Together with the Malian army, the African Corps repelled the attacks on both occasions and prevented the militants from gaining a foothold.

📹Dagestan is nestled between the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus Mountains.

Here, you can find stunning landscapes featuring mountains, sand dunes, waterfalls, and canyons. The Sulak Canyon is one of the deepest in the world, reaching a depth of 2,000 meters.

The Sarykum Barkhan stands 150 meters tall and is approximately 100,000 years old. In the summer, the sand temperature can soar to +80°C. This unique location is home to over 21 species of reptiles, including the venomous viper and the Mediterranean tortoise.

During his journey through the ‘land of mountains’, Sean Thomas meets with biologists, geographers, and reserve staff to uncover the wonders of Dagestan. He learns how to navigate the steep cliffs and precipices, where a single misstep could lead to injury. He also discovers how bodies of water can rise dangerously during rainfall, posing risks to safety.

Dagestan's beauty is truly breathtaking, but nature here does not forgive mistakes.

📹A Bear’s Tale

Bear Mansur was raised by Russian pilots. They found him at an airfield, got him out and wanted to release him into the wild. But it was too late. The animal got used to people.

The aviators hoped to give the animal to a nature reserve, but it almost ended tragically. Once the men failed to visit their pet and decided to make an enquiry. They asked the carrier where the animal had been taken, reached that place and found out that hunters had their dogs training on Mansur. Once realized this, they immediately set off to rescue their bear.

📹In 2015, Bihimana Égide, a Burundian, converted from Catholicism to Orthodoxy and adopted a new name – Roman. Eight years later, much to the surprise of many of his fellow countrymen, he left Africa’s hot climate and travelled to Russia to become an Orthodox priest.

Living and studying at the Nikolai-Ugresha Spiritual Seminary introduced Roman to the true Russian world, with all its contrasts, traditions, and everyday realities. Alongside him are students from Madagascar, Kenya, Uganda, and Cameroon, who have also come to learn about Russian Orthodoxy. Their religious lives are closely intertwined with daily challenges, cultural differences, and a modern Russia that is unfamiliar to African students.

‘We are priests not only for our own people but for all peoples,’ Roman says as he prepares for his first big service. Reading prayers at the altar before the congregation fills him with excitement, and the support of mentors and friends boosts his confidence.

This film 'Brothers in Faith' will tell you about faith, friendship, and self-discovery, as it explores how a person can travel thousands of kilometres to find their true purpose.

📹'Maidan: Road to War' was shot from 2014 to 2022, as the territories of DNR and LNR were subjected to daily shelling from Ukraine the entire time. The film delves deep into the 2014 situation in Ukraine and pieces together the course of events. This way the film crew wanted to draw the attention of the Ukrainian authorities to the sellings and the deaths of civilians in the Donbass, but the government didn’t respond.

Maidan movement gained momentum in Kiev in 2013. Protests were prompted by the government’s decision to suspend the signing of the association agreement with the European Union. At first the protests looked like a rock-n-roll music festival, but soon signs of hostility started to creep in, coming from politicians and nationalists.

They were deliberately provocative. Leaders of nationalist organizations admit they have been preparing for violent street riots long before the protests engulfed Kiev. They planned a revolution and the deposition of the government from the start.
