🇬🇧 Five Arrested in Suspected Iran-Linked Plot at US Airbase
British counter-terrorism police are questioning five men arrested near RAF Fairford in western England on suspicion of explosives and terrorism offences, as investigators examine whether the arrests foiled an Iran-linked attack on the base.
Officers detained the men in the early hours of Sunday after a tip-off that three large white vans were heading toward the airfield. Suspected explosives were seized. A local councillor told Reuters a specific Iranian threat against the base had emerged around six weeks ago, prompting increased surveillance. Iran's Revolutionary Guards had previously declared RAF Fairford a legitimate target due to its use by US bombers for strikes on Iran.
President Trump said the suspects had been looking to do "big damage" and had been under joint British-US investigation. Investigators have not yet concluded whether the plot was state-backed.
