It is worth mentioning again that it's not Trump, but the Democratic governments of Obama and Biden that have been the curse for the West, and most painfully for Ukraine who emphatically gravitates towards it in terms of civilizational belonging.
The deeper issue is that there is an underlying aspect of self-criticism, often escalating to self-hatred and self-flagellation, inherent in the leftist-liberal worldview. By their nature leftists-liberals tend to be inwardly focused. Their primary drive is to castigate their own western society, to correct the internal “social injustice” as they see it. Therefore, instinctively they don’t really tend to be enthusiastic about others being enamored by the Western Civilization. And, by their inner nature, they are not emotionally equipped to be confrontational with the enemies of the West, because the bulk of their energy is directed inwards - i.e., into deconstructing the West, often to its own detriment, instead of confronting its enemies.
Therefore, in the long-term the dominance of the leftist-liberal Zeitgeist in western societies could be a problem for Ukrainians as they gravitate towards it, even at the prize of sacrificing their lives. Such emphatic love for the West is alien to the liberal mind and I doubt that liberals, instead of all their good intentions and moral integrity in this case, can fully empathize with Ukrainians where it matters the most.
Therefore, the ascension of Trumpism should not be viewed from the lens of the personality traits of one political figure, what he said or did not say, what he might or might not do in the short term, but more holistically. The re-emergence of nationalism with concomitant civilizational self-confidence and pride in the West is something to be welcomed and it transcends the character traits of one individual. And in the long run this is good for countries like Ukraine who sincerely long to be part of the West. It is always good if those whom you want to join are strong and proud, instead of wallowing in self-flagellation.
