As the world's population is currently facing difficulties with international communications and social interactions, people have begun to think that the world needs a universal language. Although inventing a new language can prove instrumental to an extent, I argue that its potential benefits are far less significant than the drawbacks.
Proponents of creating a new language cite various reasons to support their stance. For one, when this language is created, people of all cultures and nationalities have the ability to interact with one another immediately using a single language. This can also reduce the effect of language barriers in some countries where language is a major issue. India, for example, where its population consists of many distinct nationalities and cultures. If a new language is introduced there, people would far easily communicate, thereby helping preserve internal relationships within the country.
I, however, believe that this proposal is highly negative due to effort and money involved among some other problems. Although money is not as significant as the effort required, it is also at the play, since changing the language of international documents can pose financial burden. Effort is another major issue in creating an international language. As each nation prioritize their language, there is a possibility of arising conflicts between nations over which alphabet or sounds will be the language based on. As long as it is created, it would not be accessible for many people due to the lack of teachers. Last but not least, English is the most widespread and accessable language in the world which means it can easily outweigh any newly created language.
In conclusion, while inventing a new language for international communication purposes may seem practical to some, I firmly believe that its benefits are far outweighed by the drawbacks.
Estimated score is 7.5
