Nesta quarta-feira (11), o Paraguai reabriu a sua embaixada em Jerusalém, consolidando-se como o sexto país a reconhecer oficialmente a cidade como capital de Israel, com uma missão diplomática plena. O presidente Santiago Peña, em cerimônia na capital israelense, classificou o gesto como um “divisor de águas” na história diplomática do país.

A decisão marca a retomada de uma política implementada em 2018 pelo então presidente Horacio Cartes, que havia transferido a embaixada de Tel Aviv para Jerusalém. A medida, no entanto, foi revertida poucos meses depois pelo sucessor Mario Abdo Benítez, que alegou não ter sido consultado e buscava uma posição mais neutra no conflito israelo-palestino.

Desde que assumiu a presidência no ano passado, Peña vinha sinalizando sua intenção de reforçar os laços com Israel. A reabertura da embaixada reflete o alinhamento de sua administração com a postura de países como Estados Unidos e Guatemala, que também reconhecem Jerusalém como capital israelense.

An emotional moment between two former hostages of Hamas in Gaza: Noa Argamani, rescued in June 2024 during an IDF mission, and Yocheved Liftshitz, released in October 2023. While these two brave Israeli women have regained their freedom, their loved ones—Noa's boyfriend, Avinatan Or, and Yocheved's husband, Oded—remain among the 100 still held hostage. Their resilience inspires, as they continue to advocate for those that still need to come home.

Doa Al Aubra, professora primária de 30 anos, foi nomeada vice-chefe da filial da United Hatzalah em Rahat, no sul de Israel. Ela é a primeira mulher muçulmana a ocupar o cargo. Aubra, que perdeu a mãe em um acidente de carro há 20 anos, afirmou que os longos períodos de demora para resposta das ambulâncias em sua comunidade a motivaram a atuar em serviços de emergência.

Desde que ingressou na organização em 2022, Aubra enfrentou uma resistência inicial na comunidade beduína, mas superou barreiras culturais e tornou-se referência em atendimentos médicos. Sua presença como socorrista, especialmente para atender mulheres, ajudou a mudar percepções.

Além de dirigir ambulâncias, Aubra ministra cursos de primeiros socorros para fortalecer a capacidade de resposta da comunidade. Sua atuação foi elogiada pelo chefe da filial, Jaber Abu Jaffar. “Seu compromisso é incomparável”, afirmou. Como professora e socorrista, Aubra frequentemente é a primeira a atender emergências envolvendo estudantes.
