Fearing another protest against the “covid lockdown”, state police turned Sydney CBD into an “exclusion zone” this morning, with roadblocks preventing access from main roads and taxi services banned from operating in the city until 3pm. This essentially cut the CBD off from the outside world and turned the city into a giant police operation.
Police helicopters and a over a thousand police officers were called in but it seems as though it was all for nothing, since there’s been no sign of any protest.
Calls for another protest against the lockdown in Sydney this weekend were rebuked by major Telegram channels earlier in the week, with users claiming that it wouldn’t allow sufficient time for the message to circulate and that anybody trying to protest today would only be walking into a police trap.
Whether it’s summoning an army of cops or literally cutting off the city from the outside world, today demonstrates the extraordinary efforts the government will go to, to prevent protests & maintain control.
