Creative Economy - GameDev
This year in Istanbul, I had the opportunity to meet Peter Vesterbacka, the Mighty Eagle at Angry Birds (Rovio). Sega acquired Rovio for US$776 million last year. During his speech, he mentioned Uzbek students in Finland, learning GameDev and highlighted the growing Finnish startup and game development ecosystem. Interestingly, he had visited Uzbekistan before the pandemic. I invited him to visit Uzbekistan again, which is home to Eastgames, one of the top exporters in IT Park Uzbekistan. I also confirmed with Astana Hub that even Kazakhstan’s top exporters include companies in the game development industry, such as Playrix (
2,7bln revenue in 2022) in Astana Hub.
Peter provided valuable insights and is ready to offer recommendations for our local game development scene. Additionally, I learned how the Turkish startup ecosystem has developed since 2011. Today, Türkiye has a decacorn
(10 bln valuation), Trendyol, as well as five unicorns and six soonicorns
(+100mln valuation). Interestingly, two of them are also GameDev startups.
We believe that in the AI revolution, the creative GameDev industry could play a crucial role. Let’s dive into this industry, establish GameDev studios, and strengthen our creative economy. Moreover, a friend of mine, Max Ganiev, left Uzbekistan to work at Voodoo
(French company - 500mln revenue) because the GameDev industry in Uzbekistan is still underdeveloped.
Let’s find talents and open our GameDev chakra.
