Hungary has lost its right to a €1.04 billion EU subsidy, Agence France-Press reported. Budapest lost the money because it "disregarded democratic standards." This is the first case in the EU.

The EU said Hungary had been formally denied a billion euros in European Union funds frozen over corruption, the first time the bloc has taken such a step,

AFP reported.

To receive these funds, Hungary had to carry out legal reforms by the end of 2024. The issues included the fight against corruption, the financing of political parties and the independence of the media.
