Serco and ABF forced four of our mates without their consent into vans bound to BITA this morning - come down to the prison they were taken to - 100 Sugarmill Rd, Pinkenba - for a SNAP ACTION to show that they won't be taken quietly.

Bring signs and be ready to make some noise (i.e. pots & pans, drums).

Yesterday morning one of the men imprisoned at Kangaroo Point tried to commit suicide while his wife (who lives in the community with their son only 20 minutes away) was in hospital. The man was then taken from KP, not to a hospital, but to BITA, a higher security prison, further away from his family and without even the small relief of a balcony where he would be able to occasionally see his family from afar.

This is what the barbarity of the mandatory detention regime pushes people to do. It is ongoing torture that tries to wear people down until they have no hope left. It has to stop.

We will be rallying outside the Kangaroo Point prison this Sunday at 4:30pm, in solidarity with the men inside and to call for their freedom.

WHY?

These people are locked in cramped little hotel rooms.
No room for exercise, no fresh air, barely any sunlight.
The idiots in charge call them APODs (Alternative Places of Detention). That's a way of avoiding saying prisons.
But they're even worse than prisons—they're concentration camps, with no charges laid on the people inside, no convictions, and no release date.
Fuck this.
