This action is organised by the Brisbane Blacks community. Please join us in standing against white supremacy and the violent ongoing colonisation of the lands commonly recognised as australia. Australia Day is rooted in white supremacy, the actions of the invaders were in the name of the queen and the commonwealth. As we enter the 228th year of colonialism we as First Nations people still face the colonialism in the criminal justice system, the child safety system, capitalism and land destruction the list goes on and on.

We are inviting everyone to abolish Australia Day. change the date does not suit the outcomes we are fighting for. We want white supremacy to be cancelled and in order for that to be achieved changing the date is not the solution. Jan 26 is a day rooted in colonial violence, the 26th is not a day to celebrate and there can’t be an alternative day to celebrate until colonialism is changed in so called australia.

A public inquiry has been released exposing war crimes by Australian SAS soldiers - including the murder of 39 Afghani civilians. It is clear that Australia’s participation in US-led wars throughout the Middle East and the world plays no role in defending Australia, and only furthers to damage Australia’s reputation in global affairs. Although the report of these murders is shocking, Australia has a long history of violence and plunder dating over 200 years to the Frontier Wars.

We are holding a demonstration to call for justice for the families of the Afghani victims and demand a shift to an independent and peaceful foreign policy - one that is no longer tied to US-led wars of aggression. Everyone who believes Australia can be a better player in the international community is encouraged to come along.

Recently a sacred directions tree on Djab Wurrung country was felled to make way for a highway bypass in Ararat. This is an act of genocide that will have intergenerational ramifications. This destruction has caused grief and trauma for the people of Djab Wurrung, who have called for solidarity this week before the injunction on works expires on 19 November.

Today, Tuesday morning 17 November we are visiting the local headquarters of CPB Contractors in Fortitude Valley (one of the contractors in the Western Highway Duplication project) to show our solidarity with Djab Wurrung people against cultural genocide and the the destruction and desecration of Djab Wurrung sacred sites.

SNAP RALLY TODAY

Yesterday morning one of the men imprisoned at Kangaroo Point tried to commit suicide while his wife (who lives in the community with their son only 20 minutes away) was in hospital. The man was then taken from KP, not to a hospital, but to BITA, a higher security prison, further away from his family and without even the small relief of a balcony where he would be able to occasionally see his family from afar.

This is what the barbarity of the mandatory detention regime pushes people to do. It is ongoing torture that tries to wear people down until they have no hope left. It has to stop.

We will be rallying outside the Kangaroo Point prison this Sunday at 4:30pm, in solidarity with the men inside and to call for their freedom.
