Lee Seung-jae reports.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday held his annual end-of-year press conference,.. which lasted for four-and-a-half hours.
During that time, the Russian leader emphasized that Russia is getting closer to achieving its primary goals in Ukraine, while also noting that the country's economy is stable.
When a BBC journalist asked Putin whether he has "protected Russia" over the 25 years of his rule, the Russian leader said not only has he protected his country, but brought it back "from the edge of the abyss."
Putin also said that Russia has not been defeated in Syria, adding that Moscow has made an offer to the new ruling government of Syria in regards to Russia's military bases in the country.
He's also indicated that he's going to meet with the ousted former Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.
However,.. in the wide range of topics that he discussed in front of the journalists, there was no mention of North Korea.
Considering the growing military alliance between Moscow and Pyongyang, it was largely speculated that Putin would have made some comment on the regime.
Despite growing evidence and reports of North Korea's involvement in Russia's war efforts, both Moscow and Pyongyang have been silent on the matter.
Meanwhile, during a press conference after attending the EU Summit in Brussels, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to stand on Ukraine's side.
Calling Trump a "strong man", he said Trump's support for Ukraine is very important to Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy also took the opportunity to slam Putin at the press conference, calling him both "dangerous" and "crazy," adding that he "loves to kill."
Zelenskyy attended the meeting of 27 EU leaders on Thursday, to discuss potential plans for next year, when Trump returns to the Oval Office.
Trump has indicated that he seeks to end the war.
