Staff at Utah schools are being trained to 'shoot to kill' in the latest move to tackle threats of violence in the classroom.

The guardian program encourages schools to appoint an 'armed guardian' to patrol the hallways and classrooms to tackle an active shooter.

The guardians have to be volunteers and can't be a teacher or a principal. They're also required to be in school for the entirety of the day, and are paid an annual stipend of $500.

However, has discussed in part one of the series, we do already have an understanding of safe levels, where no adverse events occur and we can let this be our guide as we continue to help people heal from disease.

In conclusion, the literature strongly supports the concept of ROS-induced mitochondrial hormesis as a mechanism by which cells adapt to mild oxidative stress, leading to improved mitochondrial function, enhanced antioxidant defenses, and potential increases in healthspan and lifespan.

Mechanism of Action #3 for Chlorine Dioxide is ROS-induced mitochondrial hormesis

When people with diseases caused by mitochondrial dysfunction (diabetes, cancer, chronic fatigue, etc.) take Chlorine Dioxide they quite often have reversal of these problems.

The mechanism of action for reversing mitochondrial disfunction (diabetes, cancer, chronic fatigue, etc.) is ROS induced mitochondrial hormesis

Mitohormesis is a process in which low levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by mitochondria or from an outside source act as signaling molecules to trigger adaptive responses that ultimately improve cellular health and resilience[4]. This concept challenges the traditional view that ROS are solely harmful and instead suggests that controlled exposure to mild oxidative stress can have beneficial effects.

Key aspects of ROS-induced mitochondrial hormesis include:

1. ROS as Signaling Molecules:
Low, non-cytotoxic concentrations of ROS can serve as important signaling molecules, activating various cellular pathways[1]. These pathways are involved in mitochondrial biogenesis, antioxidant defense systems, and overall cellular adaptation to stress.

2. Mitochondrial Biogenesis:
ROS have been shown to stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis through several mechanisms:
- Increased transcription of PGC-1α and PGC-1β, key regulators of mitochondrial biogenesis[1].
- Activation of stress kinases and transcription factors that overlap with PGC-1α and PGC-1β regulation[1].
- In obesity models, increased mitochondrial content in skeletal muscle is observed as an adaptive response to prevent excessive ROS formation[1].

3. Antioxidant Defense Systems:
Mild oxidative stress induces the upregulation of antioxidant defense systems:
- ROS activate pathways that increase the expression of antioxidant enzymes like catalase and superoxide dismutase (SOD)[1].
- This adaptive response helps cells better cope with future oxidative challenges.

4. Autophagy and Mitophagy:
ROS play a crucial role in regulating cellular quality control mechanisms:
- Increased ROS levels induce autophagy, a process that can be blocked by ROS scavengers[1].
- Mitophagy, the selective degradation of damaged mitochondria, is triggered by transient low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)[1].

5. Metabolic Health and Longevity:
Mitohormesis has been linked to improved metabolic health and increased lifespan:
- Conditions that induce mild increases in mitochondrial-derived ROS, such as caloric restriction and physical exercise, have known pro-longevity effects[1].
- These effects are thought to be mediated through the activation of stress response pathways that improve overall cellular resilience.

6. Exercise-Induced Mitohormesis:
Aerobic exercise is a potent inducer of mitohormesis in skeletal muscle:
- Exercise leads to transient increases in ROS production, which stimulate adaptive responses[3].
- These adaptations include enhanced mitochondrial function, muscle hypertrophy, and maintenance of strength and function throughout life[3].

7. Redox Signaling and Adaptation:
The concept of hormesis suggests that there's an optimal level of ROS that promotes health:
- Too little ROS may not provide sufficient stimulus for adaptation.
- Too much ROS can lead to oxidative damage and cellular dysfunction[2].
- The goal is to achieve a balance that promotes cellular resilience without causing harm.

8. Molecular Pathways:
Several key molecular pathways are involved in mediating the effects of mitohormesis:
- AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase) activation[3]
- MAPK (Mitogen-activated protein kinase) signaling[3]
- Nrf2 (Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2) pathway activation[3]

It's important to note that while the concept of mitohormesis is supported by a growing body of evidence, the balance between beneficial and harmful effects of ROS is delicate. Excessive ROS production can still lead to oxidative stress and cellular damage[2].

Mechanism of Action #2 Anti-inflammatory effects of Chlorine Dioxide

We observe many anti-inflammatory effects in a plethora of anecdotal testimonials.

This important mechanism of action is the anti-inflammatory effect of low-dose ROS exposure, and has been studied with another similar oxidizer known as ozone.

1. Experimental model of rheumatoid arthritis:
A study published in PubMed examined the effects of ozone therapy on an experimental model of rheumatoid arthritis in rats. The results showed that ozone therapy effectively decreased inflammation by:
- Reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-12 and TNF-α
- Increasing anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10
- Longer-term ozone treatment (at 2, 24, and 48 hours post-induction) was more effective than a single acute application[1].

2. Mechanism of action:
Ozone therapy appears to modulate inflammation through several mechanisms:
- Reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines
- Activating anti-inflammatory cytokines
- Modulating oxidative stress
- Improving blood circulation and tissue oxygenation[2][3]

3. Applications in various conditions:
Research has explored the anti-inflammatory effects of ozone therapy in several conditions, including:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Osteoarthritis
- Low back pain
- Temporomandibular disorders
- Psoriasis
- Musculoskeletal disorders[2][3][4]

4. Comparison to steroids:
Some researchers hypothesize that ozone may have a more stable anti-inflammatory effect compared to steroids, though more research is needed to confirm this[2].

5. Potential benefits:
Ozone therapy has been associated with:
- Reduced pain and inflammation in arthritic joints
- Improved blood flow
- Enhanced immune system function
- Potential benefits in chronic infections and autoimmune diseases[4]

This research on the anti-inflammatory effects of medical ozone therapy can help us understand the mechanism of action by which Chlorine Dioxide helps with diseases caused by inflammatory processes.

There are many other similar mechanisms of action between ozone and Chlorine Dioxide, which can be reviewed in the seminal work on the subject of ozone. [5]
