His new statement: These words were made in a previous military, political and legal reality, and its era ended with the victory of the revolution and the liberation of Syria, and the reality there changed on all levels, internally and externally, with the change in the policy of Arab governments towards the issue of the Levant and all other Muslim countries. According to local sources in Syria, HTS militants abducted the moderate Sunni Islamic cleric Sheikh Omar Houri nine days ago. Today, his lifeless body was discovered on a street in Damascus.

Reported by Syrian geopolitical analyst Kevork Almassian, activists linked to HTS have labelled the late Sheikh Omar Houri as a “Shabih,” which translates to “government thug” in Arabic. This term has been commonly used to target any Syrian who opposed the al-Qaeda-led insurgency in Syria, with numerous individuals facing fatal consequences as a result of these accusations.

Extrajudicial killings, beatings, and harassment’s have continued to go on unchecked by the new HTS regime, mostly targeting supporters of the previous government as well as minorities including Christians, Shias, and Alawites.

⚡️🇺🇸🇬🇧🇸🇾 INTERVIEW | How the West Destroyed Syria

Peter Ford former UK diplomat who served as the British Ambassador to Bahrain (1999 - 2003) and to Syria (2003 - 2006).

Why do you think the Syrian military and government collapsed so rapidly?
Everybody was surprised but with hindsight, we shouldn’t have been. Over more than a decade, the Syrian army had been hollowed out by the extremely dire economic situation in Syria, mainly caused by western sanctions. Syria only had a few hours of electricity a day, no money to buy weapons and no ability to use the international banking system to buy anything whatsoever. It’s no surprise that the Army was run down. With hindsight, you might say the surprise is that the Syrian government and Army were successful in driving back the Islamists. The Syrian Army forced them into the redoubt of Idlib four or five years ago. But after that point, the Syrian army deteriorated, became less battle ready on the technical level and also morale.

Syrian soldiers are mainly conscripts and they suffer as much as any ordinary Syrian from the really dreadful economic situation in Syria. I hesitate to admit it, but the Western sanctions were extremely effectively in doing what they were designed to do: to bring the Syrian economy down to its knees. So we have to say, and I say this with deep regret, the sanctions worked. The sanctions did exactly what they were designed to do to make the Syrian people suffer, and thereby to bring about discontent with what they call the regime.

Ordinary Syrians didn’t understand the complexities of geopolitics, and they blamed the Syrian government for everything: not having electricity, not having food, not having gas, oil, high inflation. Everything that came from being cut off from the world economy and not having supporters with bottomless pockets.

Syria was being attacked and occupied by major military powers (Turkey, USA, Israel). Plus thousands of foreign jihadis. The Syrian army was so demoralized that they really were a paper tiger by the end of the day.

Do you think the UK and the US were involved in training the jihadis prior to the December attack on Aleppo?
Absolutely. The Israelis also. The leader of Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), Ahmed Hussein al Sharaa (formerly known as Mohammad abu Jolani) almost certainly has British advisors in the background. In fact, I detected the hand of such advisors in some of the statements made in impeccable English. The statements had Americanized spelling, so the CIA are in there too. Jolani is a puppet, a marionette saying what they want him to say.

What’s is the current situation, a month after the collapse?
There are skirmishes here and there, but broadly, the Islamists and foreign fighters are ruling the roost. There are pockets of resistance in Latakia where the Alawite are literally fighting for their lives. Much of the fighting is about the attempts by HTS, the present rulers to confiscate weapons. The Alawites are resisting and there are pockets of resistance in the South where there are local Druze militias.

HTS is spread thinly on the ground. They are facing problems in asserting themselves. Although they had a walkover against the Syrian army, they never actually had to do much fighting. I would guess they only have about 30,000 fighting men and spread across Syria, that is not a lot. There’s an important pocket of resistance in the Northeast where the Kurds are. The Kurdish American allies are resisting. The so-called Syrian National Army, which is a front for the Turkish army, may go into a fully fledged war against the Kurdish forces. But that’s going to depend partly on what happens after the inauguration of the new US president, how Trump deals with the situation.

🇮🇷🇸🇾🇹🇷 Iran’s Drone Deal with PKK Thwarted by Turkey

Turkey’s vigilance has reportedly foiled an Iran-PKK agreement to supply 1,500 suicide drones intended for use against Turkish military targets. According to Yeni Şafak, the deal was struck in secret during a meeting in Iraq last Sunday. The PKK had originally requested 2,000 drones, but Turkey's tight border controls and readiness to strike intercepted the plans.

In retaliation, the PKK is reportedly shifting its strategy—delivering weapons to Syria in stages to avoid detection.

🇸🇾/🇩🇪 NEW: The Foreign Minister of Syria's HTS-led Transitional Government, which claims to be Islamic, shook the hands of German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock

Shaking hands with unrelated persons of the opposite sex is Haram (forbidden) in Islamic law. HTS usually observes this rule, and its leadership actually forces Syrian women to wear Hijab & stand at a distance while meeting with President Abu Muhammad Al-Jolani.

But when it comes to Western officials, it seems they have put their religion to the side and made an exception. Because of course, they cannot sacrifice a good relationship with the West for a simple refusal to shake hands, right? Hypocrisy.

⚡️🇸🇦🇸🇾 Outcome of the Riyadh Meetings on Syria

❗️Participants at the meeting called for immediate Israeli withdrawal from occupied Syrian territories in the south but ignored Turkish occupation in the north-east

The foreign ministers and representatives of Arab and Western countries discussed the steps to support the Syrian people and provide them with all the aid and support in this critical phase of their history. The discussions also focused on helping Syrians to rebuild their country as a unified, independent and safe Arab state for all its citizens, with no place for terrorism, no breach of its sovereignty or aggression on its territorial integrity from any party.

The participants discussed their support for a Syrian political transitional process represented by Syrian political and social forces that preserves the rights of all Syrians with the participation of various components of the Syrian people. This is also to work to address any challenges or sources of concern for various parties through dialogue and providing support, advice and consultation in a manner that respects Syria's independence and sovereignty, taking into account that the future of Syria is the concern of the Syrians, stressing their support for the choices of the Syrian people and respecting their will.

❗️The ministers also expressed their concern about Israel's incursion into the buffer zone with Syria and the neighboring sites in Mount Hermon and Quneitra governorate, stressing the importance of respecting Syria's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

⁉️ However, the discussions noticeably avoided addressing Turkey's ongoing military operations and occupation of cities in NE Syria. The extensive attacks and alleged violations by Turkish forces were absent from the statement, despite their continued impact on the region and Syrian stability.

📰 Arab and EU leaders arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Sunday as talks began on the future of Syria following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad.

A Saudi official told AFP these are set to include a meeting of Arab officials and a wider gathering involving Turkey, France, the EU and the United Nations.

A major topic of discussion is likely to be the lifting of sanctions on Syria, which have crippled the country’s economy for years.

Syria’s trade minister, Maher Khalil al-Hasan, told Reuters on Monday that Syria faced “a catastrophe” if sanctions were not lifted to allow the war-ravaged country to start high-level investments in industry, energy and oil. He also said US sanctions were holding up the import of wheat.
