This is another confusion some people have

Some people think there is ZERO tax now in new tax regime for income slab 2.5 to 5 lacs

No, it is still 5% tax

But if ur taxable income is < 5 lacs then u get rebate so becomes zero

But if ur taxable income > 5 lacs, then it is there

HOW ARE ARBITRAGE FUNDS TAXED ?
Arbitrage funds hold a minimum of 65% in equities where the same is hedged, thus they are
taxed as equity oriented funds. If an investor redeems investments after one year, the gains
from overall equities are tax-free up to Rs 1 lakh. Beyond this limit, the investor has to pay
10% long term capital gains tax. The short-term capital gains tax is also lower than other
debt funds at 15%.

ELSS funds are just like other equity funds but come with a lock-in and provide tax deduction benefit. If you are exhausting your Section 80C deduction limit with other products and think you have the discipline to stay invested in equities for the long term, you may not need an ELSS fund. However, if you have the required risk appetite and are looking for a tax-saving option with equity exposure, ELSS funds with a good track record can be a good option for wealth creation.

Investments in PPF are entitled to a tax exemption up to Rs 1,50,000 under Section 80C. What’s more, even the interest earned is tax free. The interest is added to the principal investment and compounded, and the accumulated amount is also exempt from tax on maturity. This makes it an EEE investment; which is an acronym for Exempt, Exempt, Exempt.
